Gourmet cupcakes...I don't get it

Anonymous
The only gourmet cupcake that I've found that lives up to the hype is CakeLove's Fuzzy Wuzzy Vanilla. Heaven in your mouth. All of the others that I've tried are to sweet, too dry, etc.

I'm wondering what rock the OP has been living under that just now is the first time she's tried one off the biggest food fads for the past few years.

Some of us either don't live near a cupcake place or have been indoctrinated to believe that homemade cupcakes are the best. lol

And some of us don't routinely buy cupcakes, unless it's a birthday or something. For kids, I'm not going to spend a bajillion $$ on cupcakes.

OP here. I assure you I do not live under a rock. Nor am I a sheep who blindly eats what everyone else is eating just because it's "cool."

Yes, but you can't walk 5 feet without hitting a cupcake store. Even in the suburbs. Did you not wonder what was going on?

Oh, by the way - you have to try some other new things:
Indoor plumbing
Computers
Antibiotics

Brand new! Check it out!

I don't have a dog in the cupcake fight, I just find it odd "indoctrinated" and the OP just now tried one? You people are so extreme!

Cupcakes are symbolic of the infantilization of the United States. To see adults lining up outside is frankly shameful and pathetic.

I have news for you...cupcakes are not new. The only thing new is that some marketing geniuses figured out they can sell them for $4.00 a pop and get nitwits like you to do so. Comparing overpriced cupcakes to indoor plumbing, computers, and antibiotics reveals your stupidity.

Because if I eat an entire full size cake staking in the street people look at me funny.

Hahaha I love poster 821! And I agree about the icing looking like a coil of poop! Do you two and the panda lady from the murdering mom post want to get together for drinks?

In a bad economy, a fancy cupcake is a little indulgence along the lines of a $4-5 cup of coffee from Starbucks. I take my toddler to pick out a nice cupcake every once in a long while, both as a fun outing and a special treat. Nobody in our house needs an entire batch of homemade cupcakes (!), and while $3.50 for one small cupcake seems a bit high, you pay at least that or more for dessert when you go out to dinner. DD and I went to Bakeshop in Clarendon yesterday, and their cupcakes were really delicious!!!

PP here again - by the way, I'm not endorsing the little indulgence habit, just stating that it seems to be why cupcakes and lattes are so popular these days.

I brought cupcakes to my daughter's first-grade class for her birthday and one of the other kids asked if they were "from Georgetown." No, kid, they're from Bethesda. I chose not to add that they were from the Safeway in Bethesda.

I've tried GC and thought they were just ok. Kinda dry. There's a great place near my parents' house in PA.
I bake cc at home and freeze half. Freeze frosting separately and then we've got them for another time.
