Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| 24 kids in our Kindergarten class last year with 1 aide. They did have special ed aides come in to work with some of the children. |
you're pretty wrong. try 24. |
| 22 with teacher plus aide |
| So how many kids are in a private school K class then? |
| 25-27 kids with an aide. |
| I think we had as many as 28 at the beginning of the year, but lost a number of kids to moves. |
|
We were told at K orientation in FFC that 28 was "ideal" but it could be up to 32 kids with one teacher and one aide. And this is supposed to be one of the best elementary schools in the county.
One of the many reasons we ended up sending our child to private school. |

This is one of the many reasons why we chose to send our child to private school. 32 kids is a lot of kids... |

Sorry for the double post above

To 10:03 For a private K, 15-17 with 2 full-time teachers.

| The Catholic school we decided on will have 24 kids in two classes for K. Much better than the 28-32 kids quoted from our public school. |
| When it got to 28 they added an additional K class in my DD's school. So her class went down to 19. They picked up a few more as the year went on. I was a little worried about the class size but my DD had a wonderful year and in retrospect it wasn't a problem. |
| My son's school last year had 22-24 with a teacher and an aide (FCPS) but the prior year had 31. It all depends on the number of students and if there are enough kids to get an extra teacher then the class is small. If not, you're stuck with a big class. |
| 29 with a teacher and an assistant teacher, but there were many times that there were extra teachers in there -- a reading specialist, special ed teachers that came in to help some of the kids, and 2 parents every day would come in to volunteer. My assessment, it felt like a HUGE class and was probably a bit overwhelming for the kids at first... but the kids get used to it. Overall, our school is simply busting at the seams... K-6 with over 800 kids in a facility built for 500 or so. We have trailers, pods, etc. Rumor has it we are slated for renovation in the next few years... but we'll see. |
