It's really easy to find Gucci or Jimmy Choo, but the good, full service boutiques and stores are hard to find. And no need to judge just because someone's priorities and budget are different than yours.
Here's the short list: Georgetown: Relish has great lines (Yohji, Marni, etc.) http://www.relishdc.com Hu's Shoes has fabulous shoes.com, and only stocks one pair in each size (http://www.hushoes.com) Chevy Chase: It's not Barneys, it's a Barneys Co-Op (same with Gtown. There is no flagship Barneys here--boo). But check out Harriet Kassman at Mazza Gallerie, whose service is INCREDIBLE, as well as the shops along the Collections at Chevy Chase. Nanette Lepore just opened there last week as well. Department stores: the Tysons' Galleria (there are two Tysons malls, across the street from each other) is great, and their Neiman Marcus blows the Mazza Gallerie Neiman Marcus out of the water. But the Chevy Chase Saks is lightyears better than the Tysons one. That's a quick list for you. Also, check out http://www.storeadore.com, which has great store listings in lots of cities, including DC. |
OP here-- thanks so much!! I really appreciate it. |

for the love of god.
To the OP-glad you got your needs met. |

20:58 oh come off it. If "high-end" shopping is not for you, then just keep your trap shut. Some people enjoy shopping and have the means to do it.
I, for one, really needed an update to my wardrobe and just had some real fun shopping on line. Great designer duds at net-a-porter.com and bluefly.com. And great sales too! |
| Also, OP, if you can get tickets and you are here by then, head to the District Sample Sale in the fall (it's http://www.districtsamplesale.com), which is shopping mecca and it's for charity. |
When I travel there on business, I'll squeeze in some retail action -- usu Barney's. It's been years, though, since I've made a trip to NYC only for shopping. |
Some of us have the means to do it too, but chose to do other more meaningful things with our wealth. Like help other out who are needy! A much more fufilling past time. But maybe posters here find shopping fufilling. |
I'm not so sure the issue is to shop or not to shop. I'm just bothered by the fact that she posted, now, well before moving here. If this is truly a real poster, I would be curious to know whether she posted any other related inquiries, I dunno, maybe related to schools, neighborhoods, kids, or whether this is it. In other words, what are her priorities? In other words, how scary is she? |

Just because people can afford high end shopping doesn't necessarily mean their lives are solely being fulfilled by shopping.
Maybe it just means they need to buy clothes, like nicer stuff and have the money to buy those nicer clothes. I get that and I hate shopping and only shop at places like Loehmann's/Ross/sales racks at mall stores/occasionally Target. |
| The heading line was clear: "Best high-end shopping for women?" If you don't like shopping, or can't afford high-end, or think people who spend a lot of money on clothes have warped values, then IGNORE it. Why are people on this board so damn judgmental? |
| because that's what boards are for! |
OP here-- yikes!! I'm getting scared to move to DC!! I've been posting for months with questions about schools, family-friendly neighborhoods, doctors, hospitals, whether most moms in DC work/stay home, etc. The shopping thing was just a question after all of the above after seeing how helpful people's opinions were on other subjects. If you knew me, you'd know I'm not scary, and shopping is not my first priority. We give generously to charity and have plenty of bigger issues to deal with. Hopefully people will not judge others so quickly here (and elsewhere) in the future. |
|
OP, don't worry about it. There are just some bored bitterfish on here.
You'll love DC. There are lots of us non-judgmental types here (that also love good shopping), you'll see! |
| Thanks PP! I was kidding, but I appreciate it. I'm excited to be back (went to college in DC). |

To the OP - I'm sorry people have gotten all bent out of shape over shopping at a high end store. And it seems like you have gotten good suggestions.
To those berating her and others for shopping at high end stores - I couldn't care LESS about where people shop. I also wouldn't suddenly make a sweeping judgement about whether or not they contribute to the common good or not. The OP asked a simple question and it got blown out of proportion. And I am someone who really can't afford a place like Saks or Barneys but then again, I don't have a lot of fashion sense either.
