I ran into Kenneth Star at a gas station in McLean. We chatted for a second and I didn't know who he was until after he left. I knew he looked familiar, but I just thought it was a customer of mine that I couldn't quite place.

I saw Jim Leher crossing the street downtown when I was at a light.

paul wolfowitz, hailing a taxi near the National Geographic museum. More rumpled and disheveled in person than on TV.

People like Tim Russert and George Stephenapolos dont count IMHO. They are just locals, neighbors, whatever. A ton of them live around here. Snore...

Now I did meet Matthew McConahey (spelling?) once at a bar in G'town and friends of mine saw George Clooney at the Ritz.

We saw Madeleine Albright and a friend at the Friendship Heights movie theater. Everyone applauded when she walked in, and she looked kind of embarrassed but smiled and sat down.

Also saw Condi Rice at the gynecologist's!

Yes, but we love our local celebs like Tim Russert, who obviously has been on our minds this week.

But friends of yours saw George Clooney? Wow. Now that's something to write home about! Ha.

My three favorite sightings:
Met former Illinois Senator Charles Percy at his piano lesson. (My daughter had the lesson after him.) I had admired him for a stand he took when I was young (can't remember what it was but I remembered it as him doing the right thing) and I was delighted to see him. I think he was pleased to be recognized.

I saw Erik Dellums get on the metro. Not a big celebrity but he's a good actor. He is the son of former Congressman Ron Dellums and he was really scary as Luther Mahoney in Homicide.

Saw Alfre Woodward with her hair bleached blonde in line for the open house at the MacDowell Colony in NH. The MacDowell Colony is an artists colony which is only open to the public once a year.

I've seen other people who are a bigger deal (Clinton, David Brinkley, Janet Reno, etc.) but these were my favorites.

Hmm...
Andre Agassi @ The Four Seasons (I gave him the nod like "yeah, you're famous, but I'm cool and won't bother you"; he glanced at me like "yeah, you're the 5,000th person to give me 'the nod' today, whatever")

Oprah years ago (long story involving mint sprigs in my teeth, me yabbering on about how I missed every 4:00 college class because of her. She was lovely).

Bo Derek at Cafe Milano. Was like 5' tall, in 5" boots.

I made Ben Stein get in my bed once (he was speaking at a conference I was running; his assistant knocked on my door and asked if we could switch rooms, I was in my pjs at the time, so I made him get on my bed with me and pose for a picture).
