What are your hobbies? Need to find some new ones!

I too just work and mother. But I didn't become a mother until my mid 40s, after a pretty interesting life, so I kind of have a sense that I did everything that I wanted to do...but I realize that that will make me pretty boring to DC!...so I guess I'll have to do something about that.

Laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping-wait those aren't hobbies?!
I hope to pick up my old hobbies when my kids are a little older. I love to sail, I told my husband I wanted to learn this as a family, maybe when the kids are 7-10? I also would like to relearn to rock climb, maybe as a family too. There is a climbing center in Rockville. I would love to learn to garden better, and cook better.
I know that have very little talent when it comes to drawing/painting.
My mom took karate classes with my brother when he was young and they both loved it, I think he was 8.
Maybe yoga with kids too, at this point I think it is going to have to involve my kids.
I see lots of moms swim laps while their kids swim, but is that a hobby? I would enjoy that

I have taken up photography in the past year or so. My kids are 3 and 5, and while I don't have nearly as much time to spend on my "hobby" as I would like, there is still some left over. Of course, money is another matter entirely - the more I get into it the more expensive it seems to get. But I can combine this with parenting - I am now at the point where I can take pretty decent pictures of my kids. I have taken a few classes and joined a couple of photo sharing websites for information, forums and to help me learn.

Before my kids were born I was also taking Spanish at NOVA, but that has been put on hold. I would like to pick it back up at some point. But for now I am also trying to stay in shape (harder after two, and closer to 40), so my few free evenings are spent at the gym. Not sure if that counts as a "hobby" though...

I like gardening...I work in my garden quite a bit. Reading the New Yorker. I also teach Sunday school but I'm not sure that counts as a hobby. Watching Real Housewives.

I need some real hobbies too. Preferably some that do not involve volunteering at my children's schools.

I wish I lived on the water so I could windsurf or paddleboard or do something fun and athletic.

How about kayaking on the Potomac?

Not a bad idea, thanks! I would also love to take sailing lessons. I might just look into both!

OP here. I love photography too, I just have a regular digital camera though. I took a digital photography class at an adult ed place and it wasn't great--can you tell me where you've taken your classes?

This year it's flamenco. When it gets cooler I want to try tennis.

I learned to crochet about 10 years ago. Since then, I've made several dozens of baby blankets and afghans as gifts. I've kept quite a few as well. It's easy to learn how to crochet from a pattern. the creative part is picking the colors and the yarn. So glad I took the time to learn. Big thumbs up!!

I would love to learn tennis, I took lessons but I was under 12 and don't remember a thing

PP made me smile. When DDs started ballet, rude MIL said (snidely of course, as only she can) "and I suppose mom is taking ballet toooooo?" I half expected to hear her cackle. It so happens that she had very few hobbies until recently, so I guess that partly explains her rotten attitude.

OP, what about something you enjoyed growing up? Ballet, dance, tennis, piano, whatever. You are smart to avoid becoming old and bitter

I like digital scrapbooking. I'd love to learn to crochet. That way I'll have something to do when I get old and cranky too!

I don't get that much time, but when I do, I love to scrapbook and photoshop photos. I also do beading projects, read, and bake and decorate cakes and cookies. I also decorate for every holiday. And sometimes I'm so busy that I count exercise and watering my plants as hobbies. When my kids are older I plan to go back to working with stained glass. I am thinking about restarting glass mosaic projects soon because I think my kids might get into that as well and they could use some hobbies.

Tennis is such a great social outlet. Highly recommend, and lots of women start as adults. There are teams/leagues for every level. When kids became teenagers, I also started taking piano lessons again (had played a lot as a kid). Those activities and reading keep my plate full, but I wouldn't have time for them all if I were still working full time or had little ones. Back then my hour at the gym was it. If that's all you have time for now, just remember it doesn't last forever!

Triathlon, but I haven't been racing as much as I used to. I still swim, bike, and run. Hopefully I'll get back into racing mode after DS is a little older. Maybe he'll be into it too!
