How Often Do You Wash Your Hair?

If you want to get away from daily washing, it'll take a couple of weeks for your hair to adjust. But it WILL adjust, and start producing less oil. And your hair will be healthier for it.

I'm sort of thinking of going from every other day to every third day...

I wash my hair every other day, but condition every day. So, every time I shower my hair gets wet. I have dry hair so this works for me, I've been doing this about 10 years.

I use Frederic Fekkai. Works great. My hairdresser told me you can also use baby powder (less expensive).

My sister, who is a colorist, gave me Ojon Hair dry shampoo which she swears by. I only skip a shampoo usually one day on the weekend and my hair usually looks great that day so I have not tried it. This chain is inspiring me.

My body produces a lot of oil, every square inch of it. I have never used moisturizer on any part of my body, no need. If I skip a day of washing, my shorter hair will be oiled from end to end. The upside is that I have very shiney hair that can tolerate excessive abuse and never split, fry, or get frizzy. However, skipping a day of shampoo makes me look like I dipped my head in a vat of fry oil. People like me have to wash their hair and bodies on a daily basis.

Lucky for me, oily genetics also excludes me from any wrinkles until I get well into my 40s and even into my 50s, as my mom is, I will have very good skin.

The owner of my salon says this is an urban myth. She's had dozens of clients try this through the years and it hasn't worked for ONE of them. Your hair doesn't adjust.

I'm the same. My hair looks like an oil slick the next day. Gross. Dry shampoo helps a bit but that's only if I'm hanging around the house on the weekend. Not to be in public. And as for taking a couple of weeks for my hair/scalp to adjust to not washing it, well, I just don't have that kind of time. Work every day, you know? Have to be presentable, not look like a greaseball.

Don't bother. i was hospitalized with ecoli for two months and only got my hair washed with shampoo once a week (on a good week) and no such miracle with my hair occured. Aside from being deathly ill, it was very uncomfortable and my head itched like crazy. I felt like there were bugs living on my head.

My hairstylist told me that a new study showed if you don't Wash your hair for 14 days the natural oils yr hair produces leaves it healthy and looking it's best. So I decided to try it, as gross as this may sound. I have to say my hair has never looked so luscious (After washing it) and healthy.it had a glow and a bounce and was super soft.

Must you repeat this, or is it a one-time deal?

Are these mousse or powders? I've used the Tresemme (which now that I'm looking at the bottle I see says "waterless foam shampoo," not dry shampoo), and it is helpful when my hair is looking frizzy or just not fresh. But it isn't particularly helpful in terms of feeling clean and fresh (just looking that way).

Does anyone have any suggestions to make it smell better the second day??

I only do this for a few weeks after I've had it 'done'--as I get close to the next coloring etc I stop caring and wash every day . My technique is to comb through wonderful smelling conditioner that I love the second day.

Actually, I feel like it did work for me. I used to occasionally skip a day shampooing and by lunchtime my hair would be gross. When I was postpartum and on maternity leave I went to shampooing every other day because I had so little time and didn't care what my hair looked like, and now I pretty much always wash it every other day and it looks fine the second day. So maybe it works for some people and not others?

I wash my hair once a week. It looks fine in between washing and it doesn't get greasy at all.
