did you cut your hair?

WTF is a "mom" cut?

Sweetheart, the Beauty Forum is the place for shallow moms who care about this crap.

I have long long hair and a 1.5 y.o. If I get it cut, I'll have to keep going back to the hairdresser!

I wonder too. I'm thinking either the straight bangs with straight just above the shoulders hair that is often in a messy ponytail or a Laura Bush cut.

A "mom cut" to me is Kate from Jon and Kate plus 8. ick.

my vote is to cut it!! the first time i got mine cut short i couldn't believe i'd waited so long in the first place. i get compliments all the time - women often ask me who my hairdresser is. besides, it's hair. it grows. if you hate it, at least you can say you tried something new.

Nope, I didn't. I have curly hair that goes to my bra strap. I just wore lots of pony tails/buns. Also, when my kids were in that phase (which really doesn't last that long), and would try to pull my hair, I would gently grasp their hand, and say gently but firmly, "ah-ah, no pulling." Like everything in parenting, you have to repeat it endlessly until they get it, but eventually they did and/or grew out of the stage.

I didn't. My DD is 10.5 months and hasn't pulled hair for at least a month now. But I considered cutting it because of the pulling and the fact it gets caught in the Ergo neck strap buckle.

No, no, no. OP just say no to the mom cut, bowl cut, D.C. bob or any variation thereof. It is not becoming. It serves no purpose. We do not need to look like men. Even if we are lesbians.

who the fuck said bowl cut? i've seen plenty of women with short hair that look really good. on the other hand, i've seen a lot of long haired women who don't seem to give a rats ass how their hair looks. it all depends on what kind of maintenance you want and what works for your face. and short hair does not equal man. this ain't 1820 my dear.

I kept my hair long (halfway down my back) and never had any problems.

I've always had short hair, but I'm curious what defines a "horrid mom cut"?

Repeatedly on these boards, styles of clothing or haircuts or whatever that an individual poster decides are not fashionable get derisively termed "mom-clothes" or "mom-hair". Enough already. Chances are that people who don't care about style as a mom didn't care about it before they were moms and people who care about being stylish find ways to stay stylish as moms. Style is in the eye of the beholder, anyway.

OP: your post could have asked the same question without the "mom-hair" comment. The fact that you threw that in means you're an asshat.

I've had super short and super long hair. I cut drastically every few years. With a baby now I'm tempted to cut yet again, but I've usually found it harder to care for when short (no bun or braid option) and can't go as many days without a wash.

For those who don't get the mom hair reference, Google mom hair and you'll find some women who've written blog posts about their experiences with "mom hair". When I think mom hair, I think of friends mothers who always seemed especially harried and worn out when we were kids.

I didn't cut because with long hair I can look polished much faster than with short hair, just given my hair. Yes, hair grows back, but if you have really long hair and cut it off, it will take 3-4 years to grow back. The grabbing hair stage will end much much sooner than that.
