Spike Mendelsohn says DC a second-tier city

Anonymous
True or not, maybe not the savviest thing for him to say.

However, I'll still be stopping by We the Pizza for apple cider sodas. Pineapple sodas. Coconut sodas. Et cetera.

I am so tired of hearing about this guy. Just the fact that he's gained such celebrity status in DC makes me wonder if this is in fact a second-tier city... He was on a reality cooking show and he makes pizzas and burgers.... What's so special about this guy... The burgers at Good Stuff are tiny and expensive by the way... Not worth it. Don't care much for 'gourmet burgers", so stupid.

totally agree with him. this city fails on many levels and tries to be so much that it is not. i dont even know why i live here anymore.

Lol. Good Stuff Eatery. I'm not that impressed by it. And "Top Chef" on the Food Network is like a kiss of death to a chef with real cooking credentials. It's the "Dancing With the Stars" of the culinary world.

Is it just me or does anyone else find him ridiculously hot?

Top Chef is not on the Food Network. And I'm not sure what you are basing your assesement on. Many top chef contestants have gone on to have very successful restaurants and have been nominated for Beard awards.

I've never heard of him. Redneck needs to go back to redneck land.

Judgmental bitch needs to go back to shallow land.

Weird. This must be coming from Spike's camp because the comment was totally in line with this site. Honestly, I was on the fence on this one but this comment pushed me over the edge - I think he and his peeps are a bit trashy.

agree pp -- why does everyone seem to think it is ok to put women down by calling them "bitch"? It is not only insulting to the woman herself, but her mother as well. Sounds like something a redneck would do.

And I agree with him. From a culinary perspective, DC is in the second tier. We can't compete with NY, LA and even Chicago.

I agree with you - it's an issue of depth. Yes, here are great restaurants here - but not nearly as many of them as in the cities you mention, and SF and NOLA.

And another PP was right - the lack of quailty Italian food here is mind-boggling. Every time I go to the northeast - Boston, NYC, even New Jersey - I think that if I could just convince the "chef" at the little strip mall Italina place to relocate to DC, I'd hit the jackpot. It's infuriating.

I think the food's good but I haven't always been happy with the way the place is run.

The guy thinks "wedges" are salad. Eh.

I love wedges but think the guy is "P.W.T."

It's okay to call someone a Redneck but Bitch is unacceptable? Very interesting.
