Beauvoir Waitlist---any information??

Is the WIS waitlist generally active? It was the only school to which we applied.

Does anyone know if the Maret waitlist is real? I haven't seen one person post a Maret rejection.

I hope so. Kathleen said that it does move.

I think GDS usually waitlists everyone, not to say it doesn't move, they just don't do hard rejections.

Is it worth asking current families to write a letter of recommendation or is that too much?

Yes. "Beauvoir" keeps a "list" of applicants for whom they'd otherwise accept, but don't have enough space at the time admissions decisions are mailed. Should a child who was accepted decline Beauvoir's offer, then the school will revisit the list and make an offer to one of the applicants in "waiting." Hence, the term "Beauvoir Waitlist"

Question asked and answered. What's so weird?

It means the school has a formula based on based years as to what percent of kids they accept will actually accept the acceptance offer. I know our year, for example, Sidwell didn't take anyone off the waitlist for gr. 7. It is really stressful for everyone waiting for news.

16:25 -- so all accepted applicants to 7th grade said yes during your year? Are you happy with your decision. Did you consider other schools. Boy or girl?

Depends on how influential the family is within the school.

It doesn's mean every single kid said yes, it means that Sidwell (and all the other schools) accept more kids than they have room with, knowing that some kids will opt for different schools. Most years they might pull one or two off the waitlist, some years they get it exactly right, and occasionally they take too many and end up with an overenrolled class.

an overenrolled class.

I know that's how colleges do things, and I'm sure that some local schools do that for some grades. But I really wonder whether schools do that when filling small K or PK classes of 20-26 kids. For classes that small with very young kids, it seems like having even a small oversubscription would be a significant hassle. For example, if the PK class is meant to be only 20 children, and the school accepts 22 based on an assumption that 2 will choose to go elsewhere, that could mean a 10% oversubscription if all accept and would materially impact the student/teacher ratio. By contrast, for a 9th grade class of 120-150 kids, a variance of 2-6 kids matters less.

I have no inside info, but I actually suspect that many local schools dealing with small classes will admit only the actual class they expect. With many schools requiring parents to make decisions in just 3-4 weeks, it's easy for them to fill gaps with the waitlist.

I'm just guessing though. Does anyone know for sure how any local school operates for a PK/K class of 20-25 kids?

I would call the AD and let her know we are interested in the wait list, and check back in occaisionally (like once or twice, not weekly). We did this and were admitted off the WL serval years ago.

I agree that they're more likely to accept the exact right number rather than risk a high yield and oversubscription.
