Anybody heard of MuniServices LLC working with DC Govt

I am an auditor for a municipal government and I tried several times to contact this company to hire them. They never returned my call so what chance do you think you have?

I am a tenant at a rental house in Escondido and got a letter addressed to National Cine Media at my address. A prior tenant may have run a business at this address but I have lived here for five years and have no connection with NCM. I have returned their mailings over the years but can't get them to understand there is no business at my address. Now Mulitservices wants info about my business license and gross receipts for the last five years. I am not going to respond because I can just see them associating my name with National Cine Media and I would never get rid of them.

In DC you need a business license to rent a property. The business is renting.

Whatever you do refuse to work with MuniServices LLC. They are a debt collection agency. If you owe taxes deal with the city directly so the city gets all of your tax money and it goes to city services. Don't help these guys make money.

i just received a letter from this company the other day... i googled the company, and this thread came up, and after reading the comments on it, i'm still confused as to why they'd be coming after me. i'm active duty military, and i was stationed there from 2007-2010. i'd never had any tax issues before(i joined in 2000, so i'd been in for a while before i got there), but now all of a sudden i owe over $3k in taxes? i'm going to write/call them and request the original creditor's info(it says you can do that on the letter). i'll do my best to keep you all updated. believe me though, i'm going to fight this tooth and nail!

I was directed to this forum when searching about MuniServices, LLC.

Our company received a letter as well; couple days ago for the city of Compton on behalf of MuniServices, LLC. They stated that we did not have a "current" business license to operate, etc. So we need to apply for one or provide a copy to MuniServices.

We actually already received our business license from the city in April for 2014/2015. Sorry but the letter is couple months late!!

My opinion on this - We don't owe anything and we are completely current and legal with the city. So either the city and/or MuniServices is completely unorganized and dysfunctional. Or its some sort of quick scam by MuniServices.

You who have not seen it may be interested to read a series of articles in the Washington Post called "Homes for the Taking" http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/investigative/collection/homes-for-the-taking/ about a group stealing homes from DC's poor, sick, and elderly over sometimes very small unpaid property tax. I thought this expose served to stop this practice. But now I have also received a "notice of delinquent unincorporated business franchise tax" from MuniServices and am concerned it's the same sleazy group with a different focus. I recommend anyone receiving notices from MuniServices to contact your tax office directly, not MuniServices, for help in resolving the issue. In DC, I contact the chief financial officer's office. They confimed I have no liability and said they would get MuniServices to send me a "letter of no balance". That was in May 2014 and now it's July. I haven't received any letter, so I have just contacted constituent services in my Council Member's office. Because of the very aggressive and unethical behavior towards DC homeowners over property taxes, it seems wise not to ignore MuniServices over tax notices as they might aggressively try to attach your assets. I don't know who else to complain to about this. Does anyone have any ideas?

My son in law just received a letter saying he owed money to this company, he is in the military and lived on the base for 2 years. He paid his state taxes for his home state and shouldn't be subject to DC taxes. I think they just pull a name out of the air and decide to send people bills to see who will pay and who will contest it. Both of my daughters and my other son in law all lived there as well at the same time on the base and none of them have been contacted. A bunch of crap that gets people all worried. If there is a debt to the State for taxes, they wouldn't wait 6years to collect their money!

I just received a letter from MuniServices LLC regarding delinquent income taxes of $102,077 since 2008. This is the first I've heard of this. I worked at Walter Reed Army Hospital and lived in MD for 18 months before transferring overseas. I was taxed by the State of Maryland and by the Federal Government for those months. I called the number on the letter and now waiting for DC tax office to assist.....Is this real?

Do I pay income taxes to two states when working at one and living in another as well as federal taxes?

With DC and MD, you only pay income taxes in the state where you live (MD in your case). This varies by state, though. Hope you get through to the DC tax office soon.

Many people in this thread are discussing very old supposed tax liabilities. Isn't there a 10 year statute of limitations on collections with the DC government?

do these people have a number

I just received a call today from MuniServices. I immediately looked it up before returning the phone call. There is no way that I owe the DC government taxes. I only "lived" in DC for 4 years as a student; therefore, my residency never changed in those 4 years and I paid my state taxes to VA (where my summer internship was located) through my pay check and additional state taxes to my home state... I never earned income in DC, was never a resident of DC, so how could I owe money?

just got a letter from muniservices stating i owe 4.4K for taxes in 09 when i lived in DC, but i paid taxes to NY as I was a student..... should I ignore this?
