Into the county school budget but I think if the school is having its land used, that money should go into that school. |
Wrong. Revenue does not go into MCPS Operating Budget. Money goes to slush funds where spending isn't tracked. Go find the page in the budget where these revenues are shown - it doesn't exist. |
We are so bathed in wireless signals, not to mention just the wiring of our houses and the presence of cell phones. Do these towers really add to the problem that significantly? Do the parents who are against them also ban cell phones from their houses? |
Duh what do you think the entire county budget is? Show me one line item anywhere -that money should go directly to that school |
This money ain't in the MCPS budget. Sorry if you don't get that but that's the reality. These funds are slush funds and the bulk of them don't go back to the MCPS budget and don't get appropriated by the Council. They don't pay for teacher salaries, buildings or textbooks. Guess you have missed the issue with MCPS not bringing funds to the Council for appropriation. Missed it or are playing dumb. |
It's all so depressing. How I wish we had local control, through local towns. |
Bethesda has local control. They have 2 members on the Board of Education. They don't have any cell towers at their public schools. |
What is the set back on the Sligo location? Cell towers are to have a 1:1 set back so that if they fall over they do not fall on a neighboring property.
A 130 foot cell tower is to be 130 feet from the property line. But there is no requirement of how close it can be to a school building, so it can be placed so that if it were to fall it would fall on the school building. |
Yes and the cell tower is going in on that side of the building. |
I'm not the person you are responding to. But there is a particularly obnoxious poster on the MCPS forum. That's you, I'm guessing. Can't you learn a little politeness? This isn't a boxing ring, you know. |
That's not local control - it's influence. It's worth something, for sure, but it is not local control, in the way that independent towns have local control. |

There is a PTSA meeting on Tuesday, March 8th in the media center at Sligo at 7pm. T-Mobile will be there.
And it is important to put pressure on Sligo's principal Rhodes and school Superintendent Weast. Here is the process for approval: The principal and PTA have to give it the OK, plans are drawn up and reviewed by a division of the Department of Park and Planning, the company has to get a special exception for zoning, and the superintendant makes the final decision, Wilson said. At Whitman Principal Goodman withdrew his support for the tower and that put an end to it. In addition there is a petition for a special exemption due to the tower being too close to the neighboring park land. These are usually rubber stamped. No one in our government cares about the kids.
