This will be a great addition to the playground. A new 130 foot monopole.
T-Mobile application to attach antennas at the 127' level of a new 130' monopole on Sligo Middle School property, 1401 Dennis Avenue, Silver Spring (#201011-02). Special Exception Great opportunity for kids to meet cell tower employees and to see a HAZMAT location up close. Call to thank the County - 240-777-6600 Call to thank Superintendent Dr. Weast - 301-279-3381 Don't call the Board of Ed. They don't vote or care about the placement of commercial cell towers on public school playgrounds. |
are they serious?? can parents protest this placement of the tower... |
Save yoruself a lot of time and do some research about how the parents at Whitman stopped the tower from going up there
Vote a differemt county council in next time, people had the chance to do it in November but didn't. When will peopel learn the county council is the worst and got us into this financial disaster. |
Whitman High School stopped a tower. Pyle Middle School stopped a tower. Julius West Middle School stopped a tower. PTA at Sligo Middle School is silent on this placement. They should be holding meetings and alerting the parents. Sign is up in front of school that announces placement. |
This is the same school housing Oakland Terrace kindergarteners? |
Yes, won't that be great for the k's to watch the construction! |
I'm confused. What exactly is the problem? This thread seems fairly hysterical but maybe I am missing something... |
It's that east/west MoCo dichotomy again. Middle and lower-middle class parents, some with few resources, all with muffled voices vis-a-vis the BOE. See other thread for more details. |
^^^PP here; this is the thread I refer to:

What's that got to do with cell phone towers on school grounds? Daly ES in Germantown has a cell tower right on the playground next to the blacktop. Parents didn't want it. PTA said no. Neighbors said no. Jerry Weast said yes and up it went. |
This is my point exactly. Poor school population ---> Jerry Weast does what he wants because the parent community doesn't have time, resources or money to push back. Affluent school population ---> Jerry Weast caves under pressure. These are the stats for Daly Elementary: % Eligible for Free Lunch 38% 31% % Eligible for Reduced Lunch 14% 9% And here are the stats for East Silver Spring Elementary: % Eligible for Free Lunch 44% 31% % Eligible for Reduced Lunch 17% 9% Now look at the ones for Pyle: % Eligible for Free Lunch 1% 24% % Eligible for Reduced Lunch - 8% And Whitman: % Eligible for Free Lunch 2% 19% % Eligible for Reduced Lunch - 6% It's really not difficult to see how these things play out in MoCo. |

The first figures cited are for this school; the latter are the MD school average figures. Info is from publicschoolreview.com. |
It is all about $$$ the county leases the space and gets $$$ but it doesn't go to that specific school. |
Jerry Weast signs the leases. Money goes??? |
Many experts (although not all) think cell phone towers present health risks. |
