Brown replaces Evans with Cheh as D.C. Council No. 2

As a resident of Ward 3, I do support a homeless shelter located in our Ward. However, I happen to agree with Wells that we have more than our own to shelter, and for Cheh to offer to locate a shelter in W3 without even consulting her constituents on this and other important issues pertaining to such a shelter only highlights her arrogance.

But OP is correct: Cheh is an elitist autocrat who thinks she knows what's best for us. Can you imagine if Cheh represented a Black ward who overwhelmingly supported Fenty, and she decided to endorse Gray because, in her judgment, he was the better choice? Or if Cheh represented a Black ward who overwhelmingly supported Gray, and she decided to endorse Fenty because, in her judgment, Fenty was the better choice? There would have been rioting in the streets.

Or, her constituents would have voted her out of office because she endorsed someone they didn't support. Just like the Ward 3 residents did with Cheh . . . wait, what? They didn't vote her out? In fact, she ran unopposed, and won by the widest percentage margin of any race in the city? Huh.

The voters in Ward 3 resoundingly voted to reelect Cheh, despite her endorsement of Gray. They requested that she act on their behalf - to do what she thinks is best for them. That's what representative democracy is. Unless you are advocating that DC adopt Athenian democracy as its new form of governemnt, I'm not sure what your beef is. Other than the fact that you don't like Jeff.

You are an idiot. Cheh ran unopposed in the primary, not in the general election. And even running unopposed, 6% of her electorate chose to scratch in a name rather than vote for her after her endorsement of Gray.

In the general election, more than 30% of her electorate chose to either write-in a candidate or vote for her Republican opponent, David Hedgepeth. That's right. 30% of us would sooner vote for a Republican with no political experience; who had a spotty employment history, and who had not even paid his taxes than cast a vote for Cheh.

That shows that she is tremendously unpopular in her Ward and, as soon as she is faced with a Democratic challenger, she will likely be voted out of office.

Of course, it may not take that long. She has breast cancer. Because she thought she was too good to see doctors or get mammograms. In fact, even when she found a lump, she ignored it for months. Because she? Is just too good for cancer and wellness care. That's for the rest of us -- the one's she purports to represent, but can't be bothered to listen to.

She really played her cards well there. Perhaps her steady diet of hubris will do her in. I certainly will not shed a tear.

Wow, 11:32. Resorting to name-calling and exulting in a cancer diagnosis for a politician you don't like. That's . . . interesting.

She's a terrible representative for our ward. Fact: Our ward is relatively wealthy and we need an advocate to help get our issues across. Cheh seems to be ashamed of being from Ward 3. She's trying as much as possible to redistribute as much wealth as possible from our ward. This means taxing us even more even though we pay more taxes than any other jurisdiction in the DC metro area. She's terrible.

Your post is one of the most disturbing I have ever seen on here. Exalting in someone who got cancer is just sick.

The breast cancer story is more than two years old. She not only beat cancer while she was in office, but she raised tens of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.

With respect to the elections, you will not that the democratic nominee has historically ranged anywhere from 70 to 78% in the general elections. That Cheh polled two points lower than that isn't very telling.

Quite frankly, most Ward 3 residents are fairly liberal, albeit wealthier than the average DC residents. Liberals tend to be ok with redistribution of wealth. Clearly the person who has a problem with Cheh is either one of the Spring Valley republicans, or is a LINO who would rather be driven in a limo.

You're right. Another voice of sanity.

I did not exhalt in the fact that Cheh has breast cancer (and, BTW, you never "beat" cancer, unless you suffer from the same form of hubris that has haunted Cheh). I was pointing to another example of her arrogance and poor judgment. Who thinks they're too cool to go to the doctor? What does ignoring a lump for months say about a woman's judgment?

Luckily, PP, I've already identified a Democratic challenger for 2014. He's young, but not too young; smart as a whip; is a Washington native; has fancy degrees; is good-looking and charismatic, and *bonus* he doesn't think he's too healthy for wellness checkups!

He will take it in a cakewalk. So Cheh, if your listening: Best hold on to that day job you have at that crappy law school. Bub-bye.

Almost forgot: He also has relevant political experience. Go away, Mary Cheh!

You obviously have either not been here very long, or do not read the forums widely enough. Welcome to the asylum.

You are a simpleton. Just because people tend to be a bit liberal doesn't mean they enjoy watching their hard earned money (esp in tough times) pissed away by a bloated city government. We don't want the government to take take take. You sound like an idiot who has never worked for a dime a day in her life. Or maybe you work for Mary Cheh. Same thing.

Earlier this week, Cheh endorsed Sekou Biddle to temporarily fill the At-Large Council seat vacated by Kwame Brown. Tonight, Biddle was elected to that position by the DC State Democratic Committee. Cheh likely helped Biddle with votes from the Ward 3 DCDSC votes. This will give Cheh another ally on the Council and increase her influence. Just another example of political smarts on her part.

I can't wait to see who this 2014 challenger is.

I have not been part of this discussion, so this is just a bit of disinterested (i.e. objective) feedback: You seem to be claiming to be liberal, but you have a tea party tone.

Of course, since the Boston Tea Party was a protest against taxation without representation, we DC residents have the greatest claim to the name "tea party".
