How many times can a bank call you a day before it's considered harassment?

I sympathize OP. People can be so annoying. Just this morning I ran some guy over who was walking his dog. He was all laying in a snowdrift on the side of the road whining about how he thought he was bleeding to death and could I call an ambulance. The nerve!!! I told him that I had to get DD to ballet class and pick up some special Santa paper and then rush home to hide Elf on the Shelf so I couldn't help him. He totally did not get it and kept harassing me!!! Such a jerk!!! So I just drove off and told him I'd get back to him after the holidays and after DH's big business trip to Seattle in late January. He then had the gall to flip me off as I drove away. Some people are never satisfied.

Probably will take 5 minutes, give them your current check card number to pay the fees, etc. and then close the account, shred the old checks. Why would you have checks from that account just laying around the house?

Wow, slightly harsh responses, but I think they are in spirit correct OP. You can't just avoid it because they're calling you. I agree with the PP that said if you tried to reach them about fraud on the account, you'd expect them to jump. So jump. You made mistake, and this day and age banks are relentless on getting their money back. A surefire way to get someone to stop calling you is to fix the problem they're calling about.

I think the situation you are describing is different than a random company/telemarketer calling constantly - they at least have a legitimate reason to be calling. If I were you, I'd answer the phone and tell them you are aware of the situation and are in the process of rectifying it.

I get super annoyed when the same telemarketers call every single day at the same time - always at bedtime. When it really gets to be too much I will answer one time and tell them I'm not interested and to remove me from their list.

You could have fixed it in the time it took to write this post.

Fix your mistake already.

However it probably does not cross the line into harassment.

Deal with it whenever you feel up to it. And when your kids are sleeping, switch off the phone.

Your attitude is what's wrong with this country today!

If you aren't answering, of course they are going to keep calling. They don't know you are sitting there not answering.

I would actually prefer it if places that have some sort of "error" with me - especially a small fixable one would call - rather than wait 30 days and send me a notice in the mail threatening to sic a collection agency after me. This happened with a doctor's office once. I paid $5 less than the copay (or they thought one visit was free and it wasn't or something like that). I'd prefer for them to call and leave a message so I could just take care of it.

Now, Verizon calling and asking if I want FIOS several times a week, that's harassment, because FIOS is not even available in my area.

I would take care of it before this happens to you

In the time it took OP to write her rant she could have called the bank and dealt with the problem.
