I'm a SAHM and have a checking account I don't use. It has something like $2 in it, I just didn't want it closed. I accidentally wrote a $30 something dollar check from the account and it overdrew my account obviously. I got the notice last week but honestly I haven't had time to deal with it. I have 2 under 2, and it doesn't seem like an EMERGENCY. It's not like I don't have the money, it's just annoying because it's another thing on my list. I noticed an 800 number calling my phone in the 7am hour today. I didn't pick up. I've been super busy running errands before the snow, getting in lunch, etc. It's nap time, I'm finally getting a moment and I notice my phone buzzing. This number has called me, 5 times today, twice in the last hour. NO message. I call to see what/who it was and it is Wachovia. I'm tired, and I need a freaking break so I'm not calling them now, I'll probably do it tomorrow. I'm also kind of annoyed at the volume of calls. Isn't that harassment? |
Is it harrasment to call a phone where no one answers and you haven't even left a message? I'm going with no. Take care of it and you eliminate the issue. |
I guess you could call it harassment as well as call what you did stealing. |
If you hardly ever use it, it might be their fraud alert line trying to reach you. They will try over and over again to reach the accountholder if they think there's unauthorized access on the account. I get that you're exhausted, but it would probably take you five minutes to take care of this and have them stop calling. |
You owe the bank money and they're trying to get it from you. You haven't even picked up the phone to make arrangements with them and you know they're trying to contact you. You need to call the bank ASAP. This isn't just "another thing a your list". |
Writing bad checks is illegal, so you should deal with it before you get a call from the prosecutor's office. |
You screwed up, take some responsibility and they will leave you alone. If you actually TALK to the person from the bank who is calling, maybe they can electronic transfer funds from your other account to cover the overdraw.
I'd call you repeatedly too if you took my money and weren't doing anything to fix the problem. |
Yeah, they can have you arrested for it in some states. That a slightly larger inconvenience. |
Oh give me a break, it's $30. |
I would find it beyond annoying and rather silly of them! My bank never called this often when it wanted to probe a possibly fraudulent use of my credit card.
However it probably does not cross the line into harassment. Deal with it whenever you feel up to it. And when your kids are sleeping, switch off the phone. |
I completely agree with this. You're too busy to deal with this? How would you feel if there really was fraud on your account and the bank was too bust to take your call? |
If you hardly ever use it, how did you write the check from the account? I have an account I harldy ever use and the checks associated with the account are locked in our safe. I don't know how I could write a check on this account accidentally. |
Yeah OP call the FBI. |
You have placed yourself outside the law, OP.
You are an Outlaw. Is that how you want to raise your kids? Always only one step ahead of your creditors? Hurling anonymous invectives at the banking system? Too busy to right your wrongs? Well guess what, Sugar Plum, they have your number, they have your address, and by now they may have back-traced your posting on this board. You can't keep on running forever, because one day you are going to find someone running in the other direction, and it will be you. |
