Childhood present spinoff: what did you want that your parents wouldn't buy you?

A fluffy, gray kitten. Not a full-grown cat, though, which is probably why I didn't get one.

I wanted the lite brite desperately. I've thought about buying it now that it's come back in the stores, but have come around to Santa's way of thinking about little pieces.

Atari.
A pinball machine (clearly I had no concept of money).
Transformers. I don't know why--my parents are very liberal and encouraged crossing gender stereotypes. I think they didn't like that they were action figures, maybe?

A donation to charity.

Ha! Just yanking your chain.

No, I also wanted, and never got, an easy bake oven and the snoopy sno-cone maker. Mom said I was "welcome to use the big kitchen", as long as I cleaned up after myself. Uh huh. And the fun in that is where?

My folks were also anti-Barbie, and pretty much anything girly. So no makeup, either.

Guess jeans. I got Palmettos instead. Horrible.

I always wanted a styling head, but I never got it. one year, my mother used an old hot-rollers box to wrap another gift -- when I first opened it, I thought it was the styling head. Oh, the cruelty of it all!

Barbie Dream House

Snoopy Sno-Kone Maker

One of those big Barbie heads to put makeup on... I guess it was a styling head like PP mentioned.

Slime with worms... it came in a green plastic trash can container

Yet another foiled Easy Bake Oven recipient.

Lite brite and that toy that made swirly pictures and I forget the name. I did eventually get that one though, but only after YEARS of angst.

reading these posts makes me realize how lucky I was to have grandparents who didn't care whether my parents didn't want me to have certain things. my grandparents got me whatever I wanted. I had the lite brite, baby alive, easy bake oven. I loved them all!

now if my DC's grandparents did the same for DC, I'd probably go bonkers!

The easy bake oven was HORRIBLE. It took 2.5 hours to bake 1 cookie. My best friend had one that exploded on her.

Every year I asked for a cat or a dog.

Was it called a spirograph?

You know what I wanted, but never got, and want to get my daughter, but can't find anymore?

Barbie Fashion Plates! Remember those? So easy to use for a 5 year old. The ones they make these days require tracing, which my daughter is not that good at.

oooh, remember Shrinky Dinks? My parents got me those, but I can't imagine why. A toy you need to put in the oven to play with? sounds kinda dangerous, eh?
