Socialist DC mayoral candidate who sought Mamdani endorsement bought $1M home after railing against single-family zoning

It seems you ask haven't paid attention to her message. "Lift as we climb" means that she, as part of a dual income family, can do ok, and also strive to help others.

It's not complicated unless you're a selfish turd.

NP. Does it matter how nice it is if she is railing against people having single family homes?

+1
I just love the hypocrisy on the left - and watching liberals defend it, over and over.

Who cares about hypocrisy these days? The right certainly doesn't. Why should the left? I'm not voting for Janeese, but it's not because she bought a house.

And I don't see anyone defending it, just pointing out that the "lavish" and "near the WH" stuff is wrong (and makes it clear that this attack is from someone outside DC).

$583,000 was the average home price in Washington DC. per Zillow.
I have zero problem with people spending their own money the way they see fit- and a decent neighborhood with good schools is something I would applaud. I do have a problem with people telling people to live one way while they live another. Just be honest. If you and your husband are millionaires- own it. Don’t preach to the rest of us who aren’t.

So you want to force her out of the neighborhood she grew up in? She's not allowed to buy a house there even though she's done well enough to afford it?

And she's not telling anyone how to live. Restrictive zoning is telling people what they can or can't do with their property.

EXACTLY. *This* is what people are angry about. I would absolutely buy the best house in the best school district I could afford and would urge others to do the same. But that's not at all what her message is, and these hypocrites refuse to admit it. So, so sick of the preachy piety on the left.

DP. Wow. You really can't read. NOWHERE did the PP say anything of the sort. George actually said that "single family zoning is a tool of segregation" - so I guess she'd be perfectly fine with DC putting some affordable apartments in her yard, right?

Her home is also situated in a residential zone of the city that “discourages multi-household development,” something she railed against as part of her campaign. Talk about bad faith arguments.

Sure, that's what this is all about. GTFO with your idiotic spin.

Yup. Same with Letty Hardi and other members of city council in Falls Church. It's coming to a head with their new Virginia Village project and telling neighbors that they wouldn't have a problem with a 7 story building just 25' next to their homes...

Opposing restrictive zoning does not mean you oppose people living in houses. What a bad faith argument. Housing policy in the US across the board HAS historically been a tool for segregation- this isn't even a political statement. It is just a fact, and we can go into the history of why that is true if you want to.

Absolutely the f not. She could have purchased a condo and lived in the multi family housing she wants the rest of us to live in

I’m as against upzoning as the next sane person, but not supporting exclusive SFH zoning doesn’t mean that she hates SFH, nor does it make her a hypocrite, nor does it make her “far left.” This is all just poor logic on your part.

Being against zoning that ONLY allows single family homes to be built is not being against the existence of single family homes.

This, plus “lavish” and “Manor Park” in the same sentence is hilarious.
