Underperforming teacher - what is the process for evaluation/remediation?

Sometimes they quit. This person may already have their resume out looking. It can be challenging to get mid year replacements but they do it. My kid has a Spanish teacher that had some sort of breakdown, stopped showing up and then apparently left the country (this was years ago). They did find a replacement in a month or so.
Getting an aide assigned might be helpful depending on what the issues are.
If it makes you feel better, I had an awful 4th grade teacher and learned nothing for an entire year except what I taught myself. I still ended up with fancy college and grad degrees. You can recover from one lost ES year pretty easily.

What qualifications do the average parents have to evaluate teacher performance? Truth be told, in my experience, the teachers that parents adore and think are amazing, are pretty terrible.

In a previous research position, I evaluated hundreds of classroom teachers in a non administrative position.

Just trying to stick up for powerless and manipulated teacher! Just like pharma who wants dope for kids; just like Haliburton wants war to help it's stock prices; schools need teachers to cook the books at the detriment if students and families. Everyone feels entitled for teachers to just make sht up or else the get fired. It sucks because our students and parents just get more and more disrespectful and entitled and they feels it's normal to be grade grubbing biatches.

Assuming there are other options you send an email requesting your child have a different teacher based on learning styles.
My kid has ADHD and does better with a more relaxed teacher. A rigid teacher who is not flexible in their teaching style doesnt work well with my kid.

Its not fair that a hard working B student who is respectful will get a real grade but when C students who manipulate, cheat, and threaten teachers might get an A just because teachers have no union or admin support.

The State of Maryland said we are great teachers when we got 4.0 GPA in the most expensive college in the world. It gets tricky when the first couple years in violent schools all the sudden we are not good enough because new teachers are appalled by the violence and being pepper sprayed etc.

Move on- tell that to my student loans. I am sticking up for the kids and teachers who do things legally and by the book. Being honest and hardworking without fighting teachers used to be a virtue. Now we have these parents and money greasers that do things illegally and oust the teachers who obey the law.
