Of course not all Asians are racist. But I will say that the most racist statements I have seen on the whatsapp chats throughout this entire process have been from members of the Asian community. When that occurs and no one else in the Asian community speaks up against it, it's a real bad look. |
She was referring to the people booing the vote. Lots of people were booing the vote because she and other BOE members agreed to combine the vote for dismantling the DCC and NEC and the boundary changes. As far as calling the people who are opposed to dismantling the DCC and NEC racist, that is nonsensical. The BOE never had a discussion about dismantling the consortia. They just did it and pulled the rug out from under kids that were excited about attending established interest based programs that serve diverse students. |
why don't moderately moco and parents coalition just post as themselves when they start a new thread to try to drive traffic to their websites from DCUM? |
He frequently posts on here with his username. But I don’t see what the problem is with other folks linking to this. What Rita said was racist in itself and she was wrong. But many people will let it slide because she’s Hispanic. |
| Pp here- and I think we have to recognize that when people speak about “minorities” it is not about minorities. “Minorities” is a euphemism for under performing black and brown kids. |
| As someone who has associated with actual racists, some of the most intense racism I have even witnessed was from middle aged to older Asians. They truly HATE black and brown people. Not sure if it stems from historic issues with American GIs in Korea, Japan, SE Asia or if its more of a "doing immigration the wrong way" type deal. It's quite fascinating to observe. |
ESPECIALLY when the author is also a moderator on some of the said chats. They only started to scold people for these comments once they realized there was going to be a lot of receipts. |
I'm not following this argument that relocating Wootton "breaks up" the community. There was a boundary study that impacted a lot of high schools. The only school being taken out of Wootton is Cold Spring and I think they are fine with that. |
I’m not Rita but you’re right that is WAS an honest moment for her, it just wasn’t about what you claim it to have been about. It was saying that your racism is showing when you vote to uphold a system that has historically not served black and brown students. |
The DCC and NEC, which they abolished with that vote, serve majority Black and Brown students. |
The vote was not about upholding the old system. The vote was about supporting the new system that was proposed. This may come as a shock to you (and Rita) but it is perfectly possible for a person to be against the proposed system and not be a racist. |
Brown person here: you know we exist in places other than Silver Spring, right? You might want to sit down for this but I live in Potomac…can you believe it? |
What does that have to do with the BOE's vote to dissolve the NEC and DCC? |
Actually all the vote did was abolish the NEC and DCC and give the Superintendent latitude to do whatever TF he wants |
Let’s follow along here: my brown ass children cannot access the NEC and DCC programs from my Churchill cluster home. They dissolved these while they build the new model that all students will be able to access. Why don’t you want your kids or mine to have good programs here? What in the actual world is wrong with you? |
