Very good advice.

I’m 45 but I swear by this tinted moisturizer all year long. Yes, even in summer. It’s amazing.

I use this sponge to apply. It’s super smooth

Then I use Jane iredale pure pressed w/ the handi brush.

OP is asking for the summer. There's enough "glow" on your face in the summer with matte foundation.

I'm the person you're quoting and maybe your skin is oilier than mine, but matte foundation just always looks too heavy on me, even with a moisturizing layer underneath.

I’m currently a fan of L’Oréal lumi glowtion (sp might be wrong). It gives light coverage with a nice summer glow.

I use a tinted primer with SPF and then a touch of blurring mineral pressed powder on top.

Agree it’s very easy to overdo foundation especially at our age. (I’m 47.)

I use Supergoop Protectint year round. It's a nice texture and helps me use SPF every day. I have never liked full coverage though.

I use a setting spray and it helps my makeup stay on on hot days. I use O/S (One Size).

I’m 51 and this is my favorite base makeup (it’s a tinted sunscreen):

It’s a physical sunscreen so good for sensitive skin, and it doesn’t have the thick/pasty texture that’s typical in most physical sunscreens. I have pretty fair skin and the tint works for me. I’ve tried SO many tinted physical sunscreens and I keep going back to this one because it’s the best!

La Roche Posay makes a good one, too.

I'm 48 and I really like the Make Up Forever Superboost tinted moisturizer. It's hydrating but not heavy and has very light coverage. I wear it over sunscreen because I have never found a good combo tinted moisturizer+sunscreen t hat I liked.
