I'm still cringing from reading this but in the spirit of generosity, I will be helpful.
My DD from the DMV, who sounds a lot like yours, almost went to UGA. We got a tour from a girl from her HS who was a freshman at the time. Girl is tall, pretty, blonde, good social Q. She said that there are a few of the "Old Row" houses that are, in fact, off limits to out of staters. But there are some top sororities (I cannot bring myself to use your language) that do have lot of OOS girls and that you don't need the alumni connections and the coaching and all that to get in. This girl was pretty dismissive of the Old Row houses and their universe. It seemed like she felt they were in their own little world, and she was fine in hers. Basically, they do their thing, we do ours. We are just as good. |
Thanks pp. Never heard of this and I was in a sorority! |
Interesting. Do the Old Row houses tend to mix with specific fraternities that are also exclusively Southern, while the sororities with OOS girls mix with their own counterparts? Or, as I suspect, do the touse fraternity guys not really care where the girls are from as long as they’re attractive? |
| Why would the DD want to be in a sorority with girls from the same geographical area? Isn’t making connections / networking one of the goals of joining a Greek house? I would much rather my kid join a house with kids from all over, mostly from the NE, where many of the higher paying jobs can be found. |
The highest paying jobs are moving to the South. Equities in Dallas used to be an insult. Now it's becoming the goal. Mamdani is accelerating the exodus. |

UF is a very diverse university due to the extreme diversity of students in the state of Florida.
It will be difficult to get accepted for non Floridians. |

12:44 poster again, I wouldn't call most UF students southern belles. We have a large active LGBTQ population on campus.
Again, UF is exceptionally diverse. |
| I was in a sorority at UF and I have no idea what these terms are lol. UF doesn't have the same level of southern influence or the old row/new row culture that some other SEC schools have...it won't matter that your daughter is from out of state. |
I would not count on a "touse" (new word for me) at UVA. The top 3 houses each had many PNMs (50+ in the one I'm most familiar with) with inside connections who dirty rushed who went to the end and then did not get a bid. I personally know a dozen "attractive, extroverted, smart girls with tons of friends" who ended rush without any bid. |
Hi Ivan. Really working the narrative, huh? Can’t believe you get paid for this. |
I was so distracted by your embarrassing lingo that I missed this line on first read. Ew, OP. |
Most of the LGBTQ students likely have no interest in "touses," so OP's daughter is selecting to interact only with southern belles. |
| The top houses are hard to get into for an OOS girl in the SEC. But also hard at places like IU |
