Chalamet ballet thing

People are stupid.

And he's right - ballet and classical music struggle to find audiences these days. I know, a close friend of my son is a ballet trainee, and I love opera and classical music.

This is not why he didn't win an Oscar. Sinners and OBAA were just too on point for this year. It happens.

It gives the impression he's a deep and sensitive person because how does he play these roles otherwise? But he's not. He's shallow, doesn't particularly care about the arts, full of himself, etc.

It's not really just the one comment, it's his whole vibe, but it's like the one comment finally allowed people to admit to themselves they don't like him and think he's a f**k boi.

Most Hollywood actors are, so this is not a huge surprise, but people just thought he was different because of the caliber of roles he's played. They thought he was a Michael B. Jordan, he's actually a young Zach Braff but just a better, more versatile actor.

Yet most people agree with him. If you suggested people on here dress up and go to the opera and ballet you'd be laughed out for being such an out of touch boomer.

But no one is demanding everyone go to the ballet or opera. I think most people fall into two camps: (1) don't care about ballet/opera, don't go, don't think about it, and (2) passionately love them.

Chalamet took the secret third option of vocally hating on them and comparing them negatively to movies. It was weird because no one asked him what is opinion was on other art forms, he just randomly singled them out to shit on them.

It would be like if you asked a colleague how their day was going and they replied, "Better than Mark in accounting, that guy is irrelevant and no one likes him." WTF.

No one asked him, though. He was not asked to opine on the state of opera and ballet, he just randomly decided to point out to people that they have smaller, more niche audiences than movies do. It's not that he's wrong, it just comes off as defensive and unnecessarily competitive.

Had someone said, "Timotheé, what would you say if I told you that ballet and opera are superior art forms to film?" it would have made some sense. No one asked!

It makes more sense knowing that his family is super into ballet, and he probably got dragged to a lot of ballet things growing up. Not that different from kids of lawyers hating on lawyers, or kids of professors hating on academia.

But I agree that he has a little bit of an irritating vibe. I do think he's a good actor.

Narrator voice: Chalamet is 30, not 15.

I think that you have to give Michael J his props. He has been a consistently great artist for many years. He has made a lot of fans and friends on H-Wood, and has worked with many big stars that were present last night. More than anything, these awards are also popularity contests as well. Michael appears well-liked by those that count for these awards.

Jessie P, Leonardo, Benicio and so many other stars gave him huge support last night. They felt that he was deserving.

I like Timmy as well, but he doesn't seem as genuine and as beloved as Michael in H-Wood. I could be wrong, but that's the vibe I get. The comments that he made didn't help matters, but I do think that if he can connect more with his work and with his peers, that there is an Oscar in his future.

But look out because Jesse Plemons is doing some great work out there, and is gaining the respect of many. So is Jacob Elordi and a few others that are showing greater range. Frankenstein is horror quirky, but then he did Wuthering Heights. I just cannot see Timmy doing either. Plus, Jacob is very cool, and that counts a bit as well.

With Timmy, I also think it's a timing thing, and finding the right type of movie. The current movie, while probably good, seems quirky. His choices outside of Dune have been quirky and a bit odd, though I loved Wonka. Cannot say that of Michael J -- Fruitvale, Creed, Black Panther, Sinners -- all of these have offered a major punch across a broad audience.

I think it's wild anyone thinks he should have won Best Actor over Michael B. Jordan. MBJ played two roles in a genre defying movie that was both critically acclaimed AND a box office success.

Chalamet played a slight variation on his Bob Dylan performance from last year, in a small movie that few people saw.

I think he's getting the right amount of pushback for a pretty dumb comment from someone who is more than a little connected to the ballet and opera industries. He's getting dunked on in twitter, TT, socials. He's not getting canceled or banned from industry.

It obviously didn't cost him any Oscar or award, and he seemed to take the dig in stride at the awards ceremony. People will move on, and if he has any self-awareness at all (which i think he does), he will think twice about dismissing these artistries in the future.

The guy is annoying but saying he doesn't care about the arts or is a "f**k boi" is just dumb and wrong. He literally grew up in Mitchell Lama performing arts housing and he's been dating the same woman for years. It'd be better to just say "I don't like the guy, he's arrogant and annoying" without making up reasons!

The majority of movies struggle to find audiences these days and break even. Imagine someone saying that about film because tik tok gets more views. He sounded like an idiot.

He’s 30. At what point do you think the expectations for him should rise? Perhaps he should focus on ICE, Iran, women’s rights…?
