Midd never had leadership problems. Laurie Patton wasn't bad, she was just "Midd". She was too cautious and slow to make decisions but to say that she was a problem is disingenuous.

She did nothing about a persistent budget deficit for a decade. She also botched the school's response to the Charles Murray incident. Good riddance. Agree that Ian Baucom is doing a great job.

Tf is the Charles Murray incident? These sound like made up issues

Holy cross leadership is pretty mediocre. The school is not really comparable to the top LACs and has failed in ranking and prestige over time.

Stop it now.

Uh no? Can’t handle the truth? Not my problem

The Charles Murray (Bell Curve) incident was a no win situation for Patton and she handled it as well as could be expected given the give no ground stances of each group. The administration underestimated the loathing of Murray by the left and didn’t coordinate security as well as they should have. Today, the only people who fault the handling of the incident is the reactionary right.

The budget deficit while nagging was not very consequential given the size of Middlebury’s endowment. It could have been easily closed at any time by increasing the endowment draw to the level of Colby and many other peer schools. I agree with the idea that Patton was slow to address the deficit and didn’t make the needed changes once it was obvious that MIIS wasn’t going to grow its way out of being a financial burden.

I agree that Baucomb is a big upgrade.

Roth (Wesleyan) is probably the best college President working today even if he is a bit of a talker at times.

David Greene (Colby) is doing a great job raising money for the school and raising it's profile even if he is gaming the stats like Northeastern which ultimately will cap how they do rankings wise.

Baucomb (Middlebury) Quickly move to close down MIIS which was a distraction and budgetary drain. He is a heavy hitter in education administration circles and it was a big loss for UVA when he left. He would have been a leading candidate at any R1 but chose Middlebury. I expect that he will aggressively move to scale Middlebury's endowment towards $2.5G+

Willie-LeBreton (Smith) is doing a great job out of the gate in raising money.

Jenkins (Bates) is very focused on getting Bates in a better position to compete with their NESCAC peers financially and boosting the endowment.

Chapdelaine (Conn College) has stabilized CC's finances and can now look to raising money for financial reserves and endowment growth.

I am sure that there are others but I am mainly familiar with the Northeast.

Went to Wes and agree. Roth is working very hard to promote civil dialogue. He’s out there promoting democracy. It makes sense to have a prez who went to the school and values it so.

among LACs, Davidson is doing nothing particularly ambitious. It’s a good school and does fine getting its students into meaningful (read high salary) careers. It’s nothing special.

Great to see 2 non- NESCAC schools like Davidson and Holy Cross doing well. Both have moderate poltical vibes, strong sports traditional and loyal alums.

Schools like Davidson, Holy Cross, and Colgate appeal to many families who are poltical moderates. Those 3 schools offer a great collegiate vibe not dominated by woke ideology and protests. If want a good ROI on $100k a year those 3 Delivery. If kid wants to be a college professor try Haverford, Wesleyan, or Middlebury.

This is false. No thanks to misinformation.

Davidson removed the requirement over 10 years ago that President of the college had to be Presbyterian. Just happens that current President is an ordained Presbyterian minister. No shocker as school was dominated for decades by wealthy Irish Presbyterians.
