So few applications

And 6,000+ of those are international applicants who apply because it’s need blind for them, not realizing that Bowdoin ultimately accepts 1.5% of internationals.

So effectively 7000 applications. What a pitiful applicant pool.

Enjoy reading the infighting between SLAC boosters. Only Midd grads ever met were foreign language teachers at kids middle:high school. Nice folks but max out at 90k a year.

There's a Midd grad in charge of Goldman Sachs. Many more in the "Middlebury Mafia" throughout Wall Street. If the only Midd grads you know are middle school teachers, that says more about you than it does the school.

I hate when people post stupid crap like this. For one, we need foreign language teachers, and it’s good that you know there are kids being taught by someone educated in languages to teach them in the first place. Stop ROI-maxing every little decision someone else makes.

Secondly, Middlebury is incredibly small. The odds of you meeting a single fear in general is tiny, so your sample size 1 isn’t demonstrable of anything other than how tiny Middlebury really is.

3rd, seriously stop judging others for their career paths. Not everyone is morally bankrupt and solely desires to work in the industries that supply bombs and surveillance or the industries that funds bombs and surveillance. Some people have interests beyond money and that’s okay- in fact, I’d argue it’s good!

The Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs is a Hamilton grad.

The President and COO of GS is a Midd grad. The CEO of Morgan Stanley is also a Midd grad.

Don't kid yourself. Williams is special in the same way that another 12-15 tops SLACs are special. It is no better than any of them and no worse than any of them. All of them are as good or better than any school (Ivy's included) for undergraduate education.

The differences in rankings are driven by endowment size and herd instinct for the peer assessment which is why the idea that any of these schools can be granularly ranked is just flat out dumb.

If considered by Wall Street and IB placement, Middlebury ranks adjacent to Williams:

I'd say that those who do make dramatic distinctions from within this group — such as, as examples, "this college will never be that college" and "buy this school, sell that one" — appear to lack an interest in academics and intellectual pursuits. And, personally, I'd say that the LACs that might be regarded as special aren't necessarily those that place the highest in the rankings.

Williams is held in much higher esteem than the likes of Middlebury and Hamilton. Midd boosters are embarrassing their school which is a fine 12-20 top LAC.

I may be missing something, but where in this thread did someone say that Middlebury and Hamilton are better than Williams?

No, it isn't. No connection to Midd and Hamilton.
