What do you spend per night on hotels?

As another poster said I think it just all depends on your priorities. We are cheapies on hotels and try to do under 150 a night, only do 250/night if it’s a big city like NYC or Rome. But we are aiming to retire early at ~50, assume we will be fully paying for the college tuition bill for 2 kids, etc.

HHI is $350K

Typically at least around $300-500 per night on vacation (so vacation location and not side of the road hotels). I'd love to spend less but we have 4 kids ages 8-15 so either need larger rooms/suites/2 rooms.

Retired, net worth about $8M. We never spend more than $150 per night unless we’re in NYC. Mostly go for Days Inn or equivalent, or a cheaper AirBnB.

We’re retired with pensions but probably 6-7M net worth in the Midwest.
I wouldn’t spend more than $150.
In fact, we STR our lake home in the summer and a couple times a year stay at a $56 super 8 so we can collect the $450 a night stay from our renters. (If we have something going on at the lake, typically we’d just stay in our permanent home 75 miles away)
Making decisions like this DAILY is how we amassed a solid net worth.
We work hard and sacrifice and spend money on experiences.
Our kids think we’re nuts.

This is us too. We try for Hamden Inn or other places with free breakfast. When the kids were young breakfast and a pool were a priority, now that they are out of the house, just breakfast. If we are at a place without, I make sure we have a refrigerator and will try to bring (if driving) or purchase (if flying) yogurt or cottage cheese for me and cereal or bagels for spouse. It steams me to pay $40-$50 for 2 of us to go out for breakfast when we don't eat that much first thing in the morning

I guess they technically might be motels, but lots of Spring Hill Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard, Hilton Garden Inn (and similar) are less than $200/night for double queen beds.

That won't work in Manhattan, of course, but its a big country with lots of other places to go.

Depends on so many factors, where we are going, how many rooms, etc. Income about $625k. We are going to the Caribbean for spring break and have two kids. Not staying anywhere fancy and got 1 room for the four of us. When we go to Europe we really prefer two rooms and it gets expensive so we look at hotels that are maybe $250/night, no more than $300.

HHI is around $300k but more depending on bonuses - it just varies year to year. DH got a 50k bonus last year, so closer to $350k last year.

I am a huge bargain hunter, so usually we can find 4 star hotels around $250-300 a night. This year a family member is hooking us up and we are staying at a 5 star intercontinental for 3 nights for $800.

Hotels have just gotten really expensive. We just booked our summer hotels for travel sports tournaments and they were generally $250 per night in places like Charlottesville, Hampton, Richmond, etc.
We go to see relatives in the Chicago suburbs and it's the same - about $200 a night for a holiday inn or hampton inn.

For our summer vacations, each room is usually somewhere between $250-500 (we need two rooms for a family of four with teens in Europe). Also for middle of the road hotels.

We will occasionally splurge on lodging if it's the point of the trip - like a beach rental or similar.

Of course they do, if you don’t mind budget hotels. I just booked a hotel in Williamsburg for about $70/night. Even in NYC, I find centrally-located hotels for less than $250/night with advance planning and off-season dates.

Do you also not care much about cleanliness of where you sleep?

I extended my stay at a Doubletree in Manhattan during the snowstorm for a cool 125/night. I think the weekend nights before that were only a bit more on my original reservation. Apparently January in NYC is the way to go for cheap rooms!

Now that my kids are big (18/21) I hope to stay around 500/night for 2 rooms or a vacation rental when we take our big summer trip. Planning right now for this summer, with our two Airbnbs over 8 nights it will come out to 475/night, though one location is close to 600/nt and the other is cheaper to balance it out. The kids will be sharing a room though, since I am planning this now and not two months ago when there was more to choose from.

HHI of $275. Try to stay around $200 unless it’s impossible (Disney/universal). Three kids and usually need a microwave/fridge for some special needs.

A lot of holiday inns. They are nicer than they used to be!

I stay fancy for work and cheap for family. No difference in cleanliness.
