You dont understand how the internet works I see. In the event of large scale nuclear attacks, there wont be any sites to connect to, and GPS needs maintenance to keep satellites in position and accurate. |
|
Cyanide capsules. Who wants to live like thisc you will suffer and still likely die soon.
People are all optimistic about their prep and defending yourself with your rifle but lets get real, hordes of desperate hungry people are taking your stock. Underground secret bunker with well and pebble reactor, maybe. |
Yep. This |
In worst case scenario, yes there wouldn't be any internet but other than that satellite network should be helpful. |
Where would you buy them? CVS? Amazon? |

In most cases it will be safer to shelter in place. As recent news shows, you probably won't be able drive away - there would be traffic backed up for days and you don't want to be stuck or caught on the road. If SHTF you also make yourself a target for other less prepared but possibly better armed/trained people to take your supplies from you. Focus first on shelter in place supplies and plans. Then later you could add "go bags".
Focus on water storage, long shelf-life foods, and any needed medicines/medical supplies... Beyond those 3 things there is a list of other emergency preparedness items you can gather - from portable power, to rolls of duct tape and dozens of other items. We have enough water/food/supplies for our family of 4 to last roughly 8 weeks in our basement... We don't expect to survive nuclear war of course, but we could survive a small terrorist-sized nuclear explosion or dirty bomb set off in downtown DC (we live outside the beltway)... But really we focus on being prepared for extended power outages, short-term disruptions in food supplies/gasoline, maybe a sudden pandemic type situation... We aren't crazy preppers - though I'm sure even this sounds nuts to some. We are both former military, avid campers and have a ton of supplies that don't have to buy (like portable power stations, portable stoves, water containers etc.) So for us, the investment needed to complete our "list" was relatively small. |

But where would you go and what is your endgame to "doomsday?" I mean, you can pack supplies in a bag for x number of days - unless you're holed up in a bunker that provides shelter - are you really going on the run indefinitely?
Where are you running and who and what are you running from? Is it a viable option to run indefinitely to stay alive? Cause you know, anything weather related, radiation related, natural disaster related... I'm not sure there's hope in being above ground for too long? This is a different scenario then making sure you have some emergency supplies at home that you may use if you lose power or some weirdness happens and you just need to get by for a couple of weeks
I just don't get the prepping game. I mean, I get the bunkers and if I had a ton of money, I'd sure as shit build myself a safe place underground to be for as long as needed but without that safety, I just don't know where you go?? |
|
You have to decide if you're going to prep for staying in place or leaving. I think in the DMV, as someone said upthread, it will be impossible to get out.
Someone on another thread mentioned the byrna. I looked it up and it seems pretty useless. It won't hurt anyone enough to stop them and if they have a gas mask on it won't stop them that way, either. What other non-lethal weapons can we use? I don't want to kill anyone, ever, but I'd like to defend my family if I have to. I would hate to get a real gun. How about air rifles? Paint guns? |
People watch a lot of TV and think they are going hike to someplace away from the problem and suddenly be able to live off-grid in tents, hunting or fishing for food and purifying water... In our case, my parents have a beach house in South Carolina... and my in-laws own a vacation cabin in WV. If we had to leave Washington DC metro we would try to drive to one of those locations. But I don't seriously see that ever happening - its just a localized disaster 'plan' we discussed a few times with our extended family. In a true Doomsday situation, we're toast. |
or the gun for the same reason as the capsules - agree 100% |
Why are you worrying about defending yourself from people - with gas masks???? That's like your 4-5th priority concern if things get THAT bad. And there are SO many gun-owners, your non-lethal options will have limited use. Again, this is TV/movie imagination. |
I'm talking about the byrna. It supposedly fires "blanks" that are meant to hurt and also fires some kind of tear gas thing. My point is neither of those seem effective. |
