Recommend your refrigerator

We have loved every Samsung and LG fridge we have ever had and we are very picky about appliances.

Amen. I agree

We got the LG Counter Depth Max from Costco because it was really the only one that fit in our space and was the largest capacity counter depth refrigerator we could find. We also bought the extended warranty from LG to be safe. We've only had it a year, so I can't tell you anything about longevity, but we like it so far.

Yes, the ones sold 10 years ago were ok. The ones sold now only maybe last 7-8 years. The Samsungs are all very fragile and the LGs have known issues with condensers.

FWIW I did a ton of research on this and agree that Samsungs are known to be terrible, but LG now sells refrigerators with two types of condensers - I forget which was which but the fridge we bought did not have the kind that is known to fail. You can go on reddit and find info on what is what.

Sub Zero forever. Never had any issue.

We bought our LG counter depth from Costco as well and the ice maker went out around year 3. Would not recommend.

My Whirlpool's ice maker went out immediately after the warranty ran out. I just don't think anything is reliable anymore. Appliance makers used to build these to last 20-30 years. Now they build them to last 5-10 years. It's such a sham.

I thought I finally found the perfect one from Kitchen Aid but the reviews were bad (and it’s a bit above my budget of $2500). We’re looking for a counter-depth stainless steel French door refrigerator with a water/ice dispenser on the exterior door (this is an important feature for us but many don’t have it). Ideally 24-26 cubic feet (most are smaller). If you’ve purchased a similar one in the last 1-2 years that you’re happy with, please share. And if you know of a store beyond Home Depot, Lowe’s and Bray and Scarf with a lot on display, I’d appreciate that info as well.

They all suck, unfortunately.

Measure carefully, especially the clearance at the top. If your current fridge is like 10 years old or not, it might be shorter than the standard height now, which tends to be taller than the clearance of cabinets (if yours fits under your cabinet). I'm literally having to remove a cabinet because the 70" tall won't fit. And like 90% of them today are at least 70" tall, especially if you want one with French doors and freezer on the bottom.

Height is a real issue. PP, how did you get the cabinet above the refrigerator area removed? Did you have to re-drywall? Recommend someone? Thanks.

Bosch.

Bosch all the way. We had a terrible experience with Samsung.

Watch out for models that require a proprietary water filter with a chip in it.

Try r/appliances for feedback on specific models. And reviews on Home Depot and Lowe's.

Agree.
The most basic will last and the fancier ones need replacement in few years unless you are lucky.

Can you elaborate? I'm in the market for a 27.7 cubic feet, French-door stainless, and Whirlpool got the highest rating from Consumer Reports.

DP. CR staff mean well, but their ratings usually prefer gadgets & features over basic & reliable.

Kitchen Aid. Love everything about it

OP back. We bought the Bosch 8000 series and had it delivered today. So far we absolutely love it but time will tell with reliability. The sales people we spoke to all said Bosch was very reliable and we read mostly the same online.
