Recommend your refrigerator

Our refrigerator died and I thought it would be really easy to replace but so far I’m struggling to find one that meets all our criteria. I thought I finally found the perfect one from Kitchen Aid but the reviews were bad (and it’s a bit above my budget of $2500). We’re looking for a counter-depth stainless steel French door refrigerator with a water/ice dispenser on the exterior door (this is an important feature for us but many don’t have it). Ideally 24-26 cubic feet (most are smaller). If you’ve purchased a similar one in the last 1-2 years that you’re happy with, please share. And if you know of a store beyond Home Depot, Lowe’s and Bray and Scarf with a lot on display, I’d appreciate that info as well.

We have the kitchens architect 2 and it's still going strong 10 years in. Best Buy has appliances too.

water and ice dispenser are the weak link they break and leak.

We’ve had this for about year and a half and are very happy with it. The cu/ft are a little smaller than you want but we’ve found this fridge does a great job utilizing the space it has. It’s widely available and we got ours at Costco.

They all suck, unfortunately.

Measure carefully, especially the clearance at the top. If your current fridge is like 10 years old or not, it might be shorter than the standard height now, which tends to be taller than the clearance of cabinets (if yours fits under your cabinet). I'm literally having to remove a cabinet because the 70" tall won't fit. And like 90% of them today are at least 70" tall, especially if you want one with French doors and freezer on the bottom.

Yes, the ones sold 10 years ago were ok. The ones sold now only maybe last 7-8 years. The Samsungs are all very fragile and the LGs have known issues with condensers.

I DO NOT recommend a whirpool.

This is excellent advice. Fortunately, we have a lot of height.

Do you mind sharing your complaints? The salesman suggested a Whirlpool but I was hesitant since I couldn’t see it in person.

Thank you for the suggestion. I think it’s too small as we have a 25 right now but I will look for it in the store because sometimes it comes down to how efficiently the shelves are arranged.

I’m not familiar with the brand. I will research it now.

That explains it then. We have an LG and the condenser failed.

I see now the brand is actually Kitchenaid and the model is architect. I thought the brand was Kitchen Architects.

Anything except GE (also avoid GE Profile, GE Cafe and other appliances from GE).

All appliances have issues now. Don't get any features that are extra.

Watch out for models that require a proprietary water filter with a chip in it.

Try r/appliances for feedback on specific models. And reviews on Home Depot and Lowe's.
