How much for a true luxury vacation?

Then I’d assume another $150pp a day in food, so $600/day. Then your activity costs are going to vary based on what you want to do that day.

$150 per day for food for 4 people in London or Paris. Not happening. That wouldn't cover your bottle of wine.

The PP said $600/day for the family. 4x $150pp

Still not enough. DH and I spent about $1000 a day on our honeymoon 20 years ago at a Rosewood.

For food? The 150 pp/pd was for food only.

For a week, I think you can do this for around $20,000 for a family of 4, excluding flights. $1500 for accommodation (obviously you can pay more but you’ll be able to find great 5* hotels for this in most places), $600 per day on food - assumes breakfast is included in the hotel, lunch is fairly light and reasonable, and dinner is at a more expensive place with wine, etc. Activities around $1000/day but could be much less or more, depending on the location (eg museums and sightseeing in London will be much less, chartering a boat for the day on a Greek island will probably be more. Doing private tours can be expensive but worth it in many places, but this just depends on what you actually want to do on this trip)

+1. Also. Presumably OP does not want to eat 3 luxury meals per day at her hotel. That sounds time consuming and also really high in calories.

We had a pretty luxurious Italian vacation last summer for two weeks and it cost us 50 K.

40k is luxury in India. 40k Hawaii is premium economy.

This is ridiculous. India is a lot less than this. $40k for a family of 4 would be one of those "palace on wheels" trains. Which, sure, that could be an interesting experience, but you can stay at the nicest hotels in India with intracontinental flights for much less. (My family of 4 has done it for closer to $10k -- but that was pre-covid so assume hotels and flights cost twice that now, your trip is $20k.)

My husband and I stayed at the Four Seasons in Maui (the hotel where the first White Lotus was shot) for a week last year. With all food and flights and car rental and our trip was around $20k. Our room was definitely big enough for kids. Sure we didn't have a $7k a night suite but we had a very nice room with a lanai and an ocean view. Even more beautiful than the Four Seasons is the Hotel Wailea -- everything about that hotel is more beautiful and luxurious than the Four Seasons and it also is less expensive.

Anonymous wrote:In the summer, it’s probably closer to $5k per night for a suite (and could be 10k+/night for a true 5 star luxury suite on the Amalfi Coast, in Santorini, etc.).

If you’re only eating at tasting menu restaurants, you’re looking at $1k + alcohol per dinner. High end restaurants would be closer to $500-800 per dinner. You could probably budget $50pp for breakfast (a lot of the hotel breakfasts that aren’t included are this much or at a breakfast restaurant) and lunch maybe about the same.

Tasting menu every night is exhausting. After 3 nights, they are like work, and take too long. I would schedule some casual meals.

Not to mention no one wants to come home 10 pounds heavier because they ate multi-course gourmet meals 3x a day for a week. I think after even one day of that much food I wouldn't want to eat at all the next day. We usually do a light breakfast either room service or club lounge or hotel restaurant, then lunch is poolside or at our excursion for the day and then a nice dinner.

I would say probably $50k to start. We have taken some trips that cost upwards of $120k. Most those were luxury safaris and some town/country hopping trips.

plus 20% more for euros because the dollar sucks

Easily $30k if you have teens.

Such a waste of money. The absolute best breakfast can be just a fresh croissant. IDK I travel for more than chasing luxury which is often manufactured and not authentic.

The best sangria in the world comes from a giant barrel in a tiny bar in Paris.

$2k/night for the suite

$1k/day for food and cars

+ any tickets or experiences (boat rides in Greece, theatre in London, etc...)

2 First Class tickets from IAD to Mumbai exceeds 30k. That leaves 10k in luxury buget. Not ridiculous.

The people in the 7K+ suites were luxury. You were premium economy.
