What do MS courses look like on HS transcript?

The grades do show up on the HS transcript if they meet a high school requirement. My understanding is they don’t factor into the GPA unless it helps the GPA, but I don’t know exactly how this works in practice.

Okay, thanks. So the handful of HS-credit middle school grades are the very first thing the admissions officers see on the transcript? That's kind of nerve-wracking... feels like it would be hard for them to ignore Bs and Cs there even if they claim that middle school grades don't matter to them.

True, but visually the middle school sections are much smaller so it optically is differentiated a bit. Like just glancing at it I can tell it is not the high school section because far fewer classes are listed.

I know that may not feel like consolation, but think of it this way, if MS was hard but HS has solid grades it is a sign of an upward trend with AOs like.

+1. And the "Grade 6" text is in bold type, whereas the letter grades are not, so it's really very obvious they are middle school sections, which won't be their focus.

Very worried that DD has a C grade in first semester of AP chemistry. She is going to work on it and raise it to B or A. This class was hard.
Any stories of hope that your child went to a good school- not Ivy League -with a C grade in such a class 😫

This is inaccurate for current MCPS transcripts.

Different poster here. No it’s not, it’s exactly correct. My child just got his official transcript on request about a week ago and that’s how it’s laid out. Note: the transcript is not the same as the SGGCR parents get in ParentVUE which is organized differently.

Yes. For example, for my 8th grader, I was told Algebra 1 (grade 7), Geometry (grade 8) and Spanish 3A/B (grade 8) would show on his high school transcripts because they count towards HS graduation requirements for math and world language.

Most colleges recalculate GPAs themselves. Most do not consider any courses taken in MS and also do not consider things like PE, art or other non-academic electives. Most do not weight grades. Many have a different "score" for rigor where the difficulty of classes is taken into account.

Some admissions officers see the actual transcript, others have students report using STAR or something different where they pull the data they are interested in and have each student's file look more consistent. High volume schools do not have the time to comb through the files of kids from thousands of different high schools to find the information they are interested in, instead they use something to assimilate the information so that it's in the same place for each student being considered.

What does the final mcps high school transcript show and look like ?
Does it show semester based grades ? Are double period AP classes grades listed by semester or does only the final grade show ?

Each semester class is listed one on each line, each with its own letter grade for 0.50 credits.

After the grade and the credit there is also a column indicating if a class is Honors (HON) or Advanced Level (ADV) or Certificate of Merit (CM), plus another column indicating a withdrawal (WD), plus a column for the name of the school.

Wish they could upload transcripts in ParentVue. I don't think any of this should be a surprise (They are pretty clear on how to MS grades are displayed and used in calculations, but it would be good to just see how it all looks together and confirm GPA and WGPA etc.)
