I see that grades for HS courses taken in middle school (math, foreign language, etc) apparently show up on the HS transcript, but are not calculated into the GPA unless it improves the GPA.
Is there a sample transcript anywhere, or can anyone describe what this physically looks like and how prominent the middle school grades are? Are they in the same section as the HS grades, or are they tucked away somewhere? (And are colleges going to care at all about seeing Bs or Cs in middle school on the transcript, alongside other applicants who had As in those classes in middle school, assuming that actual HS grades are similar?) |
| I may need to be corrected but I believe that any grades earned in MS do not count on the HS transcript. The credits count but the grades do not. My child got C's in middle school Spanish but the HS transcript shows a 4.0 GPA. |
|
The transcript is broke down by grade 7, 8, 9, 10, etc). For grades 6-8 it only lists classes that are meeting a HS requirement. The layout of the middle school and high school grades is identical and in order of grade (eg if your first class you took for HS credit was in sixth grade, the sixth grade section is the first section listed on the transcript).
Everything is identical in appearance to the HS grades except the sections for MS grades are smaller because there are less relevant classes to list. |

They absolutely show up on your HS transcript just like the courses taken during the four years of HS. Algebra 1, Spanish 1, 2, 3 - whatever. I just looked at my high school senior's transcript and it wasn't at all clear which of the classes were taken in 6-8 versus 9-12. IDK about GPA etc. But know that the C in Spanish in middle school will show up on the HS transcript heading to college, unfortunately!!

My Junior's transcript has five middle school classes on it (two maths and three languages).
All five of them are included in the regular GPA because they were all As; not all are in WGPA because that only applies to honors or AP courses. They are inline with the other courses, organized by subject. So the language table has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and AP. The date the course concluded is on the far right of the table, which is the only way you can know it was taken in MS. There is a key at the bottom of the transcript that has icons for: "course taken in middle school and excluded from WGPA" "course taken in middle school and excluded from GPA and WGPA" "course taken in middle school and excluded from GPA" Three of my kid's courses have icons that say "course taken in middle school and excluded from WGPA" because they were regular, not Honors courses, which are not applicable to the WGPA. My kid also has some icons for "courses taken outside of MCPS" for DE courses. |
This is inaccurate for current MCPS transcripts. |
Are you looking at a student grade and gradation report (what you can see on ParentVUE) or an actual transcript? Transcripts are only available if you request it from the registrar. They are not otherwise distributed. Colleges get a transcript. It is not the same as the grade and graduation report, although the information is to some degree overlapping. The person asked about the transcript that goes to colleges. |
| Lots of people here referring to the grade and graduation report in ParentVUE. This is not a transcript. The transcript is clearly broken down by grade and must be requested from the registrar. |
Thank you. This is what I was saying when I mentioned I may need to be corrected. I was uncertain. |
| You or your student can request an unofficial transcript from the school counselor. |
| Where would I find my child's SGGCR in ParentVue? Does it contain their GPA/wGPA? |
You can find it in the documents section. It has weighted and unweighted GPA. |
Would you or someone else be willing to briefly flag any inaccurate statements above that are based on the ParentVUE report rather than what's on the transcript sent to colleges? It would be hugely appreciated. |
This is not referring to the transcript. The transcript is easily broke down by grade. |
This is not the transcript. The transcript doesn’t list date completed in a date format like this. The transcript is broken down by grade. |
