Irish-born husband of U.S. citizen, based in Wakefield, Mass., in ICE detention for 5 months

It’s a sad situation, but he’s in ICE detention because he refuses to leave voluntarily and follow some sort of process?

That's what you got from the article?? Not the "they are killing people" part?

Lots of people, including Europeans like the Irish, have overstayed their visas in the past. I bet some MAGA "real Americans" have relatives who have stayed in the US illegally, and then had US born kids.

These are paperwork violations, not crimes. Why are these people being subjected to imprisonment and torture?

MAGA: if you have paperwork violations, you deserve to rot in prison. If you protect a pedophile, you deserve to be POTUS.

Please I beg of everyone, stop pretending we don't know what is going on in these "detention" centers. Our government is rounding up people they consider undesirables and killing them. And if you are just quietly going about your days, shrugging your shoulders, and plugging your ears, you are complicit.

Years down the road when this is all over, the full extent of the atrocities will be uncovered. The world will learn what we allowed to go on, and we as a country will rightfully carry this stain forever.

Is there some central non-profit or something that is collecting all this info?

Normally this would be Congress. But of course under Johnson and Thune’s leadership, Congress just flits from one vacation to the next.

In the absence of congressional oversight, it’s hard to see the picture as a whole to respond.

Thank you came here to say this. MAGA are some "special" people.

Well, ICE is coming for many of us, including MAGA, eventually.

They should be informed that being white isn't eventually going to be helpful. We are already at the "now white people are getting shot in the head in broad daylight" stage. Not too much longer until white US citizens are heading to the warehouses too.

To the PP who phrased the question ridiculously: I think some people ARE surprised that ICE is targeting any White people, though this guy is the exception not rule. I do think that there are some people who will care more because it is a White Irish guy and so I am happy to share the story.

His story is not more important than that of others but it is absolutely important and yet another example of the cruelty and incompetence of this administration. The man was about to get a Green Card. How in the world does this make our country greater?

Hard to say. Says he applied for a green card, doesn't mean he was anywhere near close to getting it.
Friend of my son's, guy is in his mid-20s, he's dating a Peruvian girl. She's been here for years, no idea what her status is (she's not a student) and she keeps putting off the green card application because if you leave the country you have to wait 5 years and she likes not travel--not just home but to Europe. In November she was talking about a trip to Japan. Beats me.

No, it is not hard to say. He had his final green card interview scheduled.

Get them out of here then. What’s your point? AI is coming and everyone is going to be unemployed. We don’t have unlimited funds for UBI.

Exactly. OP felt the need to start a whole new thread because it’s a white guy! As if this hasn’t been happening to black and brown people every day.

Again, this happens to black/brown people all.the.time. And not just laborers or housekeepers. But college professors, doctors, etc…

We don't have UBI, and if we did, red states would be benefiting more because that is where most of the "takers" in our country live.

Because ICE has targets to meet and they're not that good at their job. So they're "catching" those who are openly living in USA who may have some minor visa or green card irregularities, not the violent criminals Trump said he would deport.
