| I found an old rebate that I knew I never received. $120 for an appliance as I recall |
| On the DC site found one claim for under $50 and one for over. DC doesn't give exact amounts. Found two for a sister as well. |
| 11 post in 1 hour, I believe there was a similar almost exactly post about a year ago, with the same links. |

Thanks OP
|
| Found one for under $100 in my spouses name - will have him file for the claim. Nothing for me |

Yep, periodically I search all the states where we’ve lived, and once turned up an old utility deposit that had never gotten refunded to us.

I did this a while ago on a lark, got like $30 from a medical provider that I guess we overpaid at some point.
Very simple to do and well worth the minimal time it takes to fill out the form. |

So I found this for my mom, who had dementia and wasn't cashing checks. That led me to look around and discover that her own mother (died in 1972) has funds in NYC, but I dont have any documents to claim. Doesn't give the amount.
But her father, who died in TX in 1982, had like 4k in funds. That one we tried to do. I sent in his death certificate, my mom's birth certificate, a copy of his will and trust, letters testamentary naming my mother as the executor, you name it. They still wanted more, the actual probate records. Then my mom died while waiting. and now I've sent in all her documents. The thing they still want is a notarized affadavit of someone who can attest to knowing my grandfather and that he only had one child, my mother. He was born in 1899! Everyone he knew who knew him is DEAD. So, this money has been sitting there for almost 50 years, no interest in tx btw, and I've supplied a massive trove of documents (including a couple published sources on my grandfather which speak to his family, including his wife and only child) and I still can't get it. Sigh. |
| Thanks for posting OP. I found some stuff under my name. Crazy! |
| So if it's our name, how do we find out more. My name isn't super common, but there are other people in Virginia with my name. I'm not sure if it's me they owe or a different person, no middle names are given. For instance, one is just from "capital one", which could potentially be me (I have capital one bank accounts and credit cards). Ones from electric companies in places I've never lived would obviously not be me. |
| Thanks, OP! I found a claim too! |
Did you try calling and talking to a real human? Someone in that office should be sympathetic and offer an alternative... |
It's believable. I got bored and looked up my husband's relatives (after that post) and found small dollar amounts for at least four of them. Then he told me not to tell them because it was creepy of me to look them up. I found about $1K for a ex-cousin one time when I was cleaning up my own issue with NY state. I cold-called her using a phone database online and let her know. I hadn't seen her in 30 years. Ex-wife of an older cousin. She did know who I was though. My grandma who died around 2000 has $200 or so with NY state but I don't have the documents or status to claim it. |
What's your point? My DH and I got back almost 2k from a real estate transaction where they had our wrong forwarding address. I was excited to post here to encourage others to check it out. |
It should list a city and/or zip. |
