I got a check today from Virginia's Treasury for unclaimed property

On a lark, I searched my name for unclaimed property and low and behold ... I had some.

So, I filled out a claim form about a month ago and today I got a check for $125.

I mean, it's not gonna make me a millionaire, but i can put that to use this week.

If you haven't checked out the unclaimed property sites, they're really good. Just make sure you're using the official one and not some third party site that will charge you a finder's fee.

This is so interesting. I just searched the NC database and see a number of my extended family members listed.

How accurate is this? I see a family member that has more than $1k in unclaimed property. Other family members with less.

Thanks! I legit was thinking the other day that there was a $110 state wide tax refund in Va. one year and I got a check and carried it around for 2 yrs, never depositing it and it expired. And sure enough it is listed on that official website of unclaimed funds. Just filed a claim for it- lets see if they re issue it.

Thanks for this reminder, OP. I just found 2 entries for myself, 4 for my husband, and maybe half a dozen for my deceased BIL. I wouldn't have looked at this without your post.
