Yes it can be a sport they already do. You just need to get to the time required and you have to get a coach to sign off. I think in the end it's 4 weeks? Maybe 5? The class runs from right after school lets out until end of July. The virtual virginia one. Yes, they are required to take PE both 9 and 10. |
It was worthwhile for my kid because they had 2 electives they wanted to take. Both arts related. We were not doing to gun for more academic classes but more to pursue other interests. A lot of arts kids do it. |
They get a letter grade. The class is beyond easy. Do not worry about the grade. |
I am the person who posted previously. I have a kid with a late October birthday who is a week away from getting final drivers license. If your kid is going to pursue getting their license on time, do not let them wait to take drivers ed as part of PE is my advice. We had him do online drivers ed at the front end of having his learners permit last spring/early summer. |
thank you. So just use an outside company? I drive smart or something? |
Yes we did online drivers ed through I drive smart. Could do on demand whenever. |
I was hoping for a grade. For my B-ish kid, an A in PE is appreciated. And if along with another elective she likes, win-win. |
| I had my kid do in-person normal PE because the rest of her schedule is so difficult that i thought PE would be a nice break from her AP and intensified classes. I was right. So consider that. |
The break has been nice for my kid now that he is doing a sport - but a good chunk of the class is being in a classroom (learning about nutrition, importance of sleep etc). That part drove my kid crazy. for 10th grade, he is planning to get PE out of the way over the summer. The thing to be aware of is that you have daily assignments (with a little flexibility for travel) so your kid does need to be available each weekday to log in. They can use a fitbit if they are doing an organized physical activity. |
This was our thinking, too. Our kid did Econ/personal finance over the summer and PE during the school year. |
A great idea. Thank you. |
| For PE taken over the summer, how long is the session? How many days per week? TIA. |
Again people assume kids are doing this to pack in another academic class. I wouldn’t encourage that. My daughter wanted to do theater and choir and didn’t want to have to choose between the two. Loves both classes and both are really something she looks forward to in her schedule. Most of the kids I know in real life who have done it it’s to double up on arts electives. |
Differs between the in person APS option and fully virtual option. APS in person option is 5 days a week for 2 or 3 weeks? Virtual is longer and there is a lot more flexibility. All this info is on APS website. You can see the schedule from last summer. |
If you have it can you post a link? I've looked at see several different things, including one link saying virtual doesn't exist anymore since the pandemic. |
