APS PE in summer school?

Anonymous
Anyone have their child do this summer before 9th or 10th?

My kid did virtual PE the summer before 9th and some of my kid's friends did the in person version. I think it is a great idea to get it out of the way during the summer so your kid can do more electives if there are several he/she is interested in. Technically you have to still sign up for PE (at least for 9th grade) and then you show the school your kid already took it and they add an elective over the summer.

Yes, my kid did virtual virginia PE before 9th and 10th. APS also offers an option where you have to go to one of their buildings for a couple weeks over the summer. Do you have specific questions?

Can you choose between the “in person and virtual” and a “virtual only” option? I thought there was only one offering (the in person and virtual combo)?

Yes there is in person/virtual hybrid offered through APS and fully virtual offered through virtual Virginia.

One thing of which to be aware… if your child takes 10th grade PE during the school year at one of the main APS high schools (I think at all 3), it includes the classroom part of drivers’ ed, whereas the summer version does not.

Can an activity count for summer PE? Like a skating class or something?

They have to log 150 minutes a week of physical activity for the fully virtual option. Can be almost anything.

Depending on the age of your kid it’s actually an advantage to do the drivers ed class online summer before 10th. For older kids in the grade, drivers ed during 10th grade PE is really too late.

Depends on when your kids birthday falls though.

Can it be practice for a sport they already do? For how many weeks?

And sorry- I should know this- but otherwise do they have to take PE both fresh and sophomore years?

Is it worthwhile? Does it make school harder by taking other electives? My son has all A's except for an elective where he has a B and mostly seniors in his class.

My kid has a fall birthday and will be getting his learner's permit in the spring. I had not even thought about this. So driver's ed is a school class? TYVM.

Do you know about the summer PE class in a main building?

Does the “grade” from virtual Virginia transfer to APS or is it just pass/fail?

The classroom portion is part of 10th grade PE, yes. The behind the wheel portion is separate, but at least some APS high schools offer that before/after school on a limited basis.
