Why is Athleta not cheaper than Lululemon?

They have been bought by private equity the end is near.

Depends on the item

Lulu's leggings hold up way better.
I have some that are about 10 years old still as good as new.

There has only been one product of Lulu's that did not hold up for me over the years.

I use both. Lulu holds up better and I like their pockets but Athlete does some things really well. Alo... Very cute clothes; however, the fit is off for short apple shaped women so I stopped buying. Been looking at WISKII.

Lululemon is higher quality than Athleta and Alo. I tried Alo and was not impressed.

It’s not… you’re not doing it right – it’s almost always on sale. You just have to wait a few weeks or a month for what you want. I’ve been shopping there for 15+ years.

No. I am a yoga, instructor and wear all the brands 6 + times a week. My Athleta gear is what has lasted the longest.

Athlete has amazing sales with good quality.

Athleta is less expensive when they have sales (which are WAY more frequent / cover more things than lulu). However I think Athleta and Lululemon are both pretty basic these days and neither is considered high end now that there are so many more expensive brands making yoga or athletic wear.

This ^^.

I bought some Athleta pants and a shirt for travel recently, needed some relatively comfy stuff last minute for a trip to London that would be fine to wear while traveling, and I haven't worn it again. One of the pairs of pants I bought and the shirt both literally feel like plastic against my skin. Not buying anything there again.

I haven’t tried Varley, but Vuori and Sweaty Betty have been “in” for years. I have several pieces from each. I see Vuori bashed on this site in that the quality has gone down. Not sure if that’s true, but I do really enjoy the Vuori items I have (much more so than my Sweaty Betty or Athleta clothes..

They don’t make them like they used to.

Wool workout clothes? Yikes.

DP but I get it, wool is moisture wicking.

That PP wanted to know what has taken the place of Lululemon. In that context, it's Alo, Varley, Sweaty Betty, and Vuori. What you "have tried" isn't really relevant here.

+1. I keep my Lulu stuff longer because I just don’t like wearing them as much as the better fitting Athleta clothes.

And yes, I agree that Lulu has let themselves get usurped in the market. The could charge more because they were luxury but other brands have taken that space. But Athleta which still holds up pretty well is cheaper.

(I say that as someone who watches companies. As a daily exerciser, I actually prefer Athleta, under armour, and even Nike).
