Looked at the X5. Found ourselves in an X7 instead. Love it!

She doesn't need a 3rd row.

The new X3 is really nice - much better than the prior generation X3 - and would be my choice in this category (luxury small suvs). I’ve heard it is decently reliable, though regular maintenance is still going to be fairly expensive.

I'm in the process of test driving them and am halfway through the list. But no will not be buying at Carmax, only looking new.

I'm asking for real world experience to supplement the test drives.

Buy and we keep our cars for a long time. Currently driving a 2014 Acura MDX.

I test drove it and loved the way it drove. But absolutely hated the touch screen and the voice control just DID NOT WORK. The dealer guy had no explanation. So that may be a dealbreaker.

OP here. An X5 is more than I need, and an X7 is way more than I need. I'm tired of squeezing my current 3 row SUV into tight parking spaces, and ready for something a little smaller.

That makes sense, especially as parking spaces seem to be shrinking in size in many areas. It'd be a mistake to buy a larger car than you need. Not only will the purchase price probably be higher, mileage gets worse with increased vehicle weight and size. We have one X3 and one X5; the X5 will be replaced with another X3, which is plenty large enough for 99% of our use cases.

This isn’t high end but I’m considering the 2026 Toyota rav4 hybrid. 60 mpg!!!

Smaller though and no third row.

throwing this into ring. Cadilac for a very late model used one. I bought a used one at the dealership with only 7k miles and 15 months old for a decent amount off list price, this one a bit pricey used in my option but the XT5 and Xt6 on cargurus can find some deals on 23-25 models used

I will say as someone who hated moving from a BMW with buttons to nearly all touch screen, it’s remarkable how quickly I adjusted and now it doesn’t bother me.

I suggested Carmax because there is a good chance you can see all the cars on your list and then sit in them. You don’t need to buy from Carmax or even make an appointment. You can just go to their lot and browse.

Getting someone else’s real world experience isn’t always a substitute for your own personal wants.

Land Rover / Range Rover. But out of your list, maybe the Lexus.

My SIL has this car and loves it! They no longer make the Ford edge, which is the more affordable option and this is a more luxury version of that.

While the Subaru Outback is reliable & great for hauling dogs, it is not a luxury vehicle--which is what OP wants.

Lincoln Nautilus if buying new.

Then no to BMW. You have to go Toyota, sorry. Honda reliability isn't good now either.
