Recs for new SUV

Anonymous
Looking for a higher end SUV. I have an Acura MDX now, but I no longer need a 3rd row. So looking for a replacement that's a little smaller. Currently considering -

Volvo XC 60
BMW X3 30
Subaru Outback
Acura RDX
Toyota Crown Signia
Lexus NXF Sport AWD

any thoughts?

I think you should take an afternoon, go to Carmax and sit in all these cars. Some you listed are different than others. For example, the Outback is a nice SUV but I wouldn’t categorize it as higher end. Then I would drive the SUVs that make your short list.

I absolutely love my Subaru Outback. I've had it 15 years and it's still running great.

We love our 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.

I had an X3 and just got an X5. X3 was great, but highly recommend the X5.

The crown signia. is the highest end model Toyota sold in Japan. It is Japan made and has real leather seats.

What? Never heard BMW and reliability used correctly together in the same sentence.

BMW ranked Consumer Reports (2026): Ranks #1 in Luxury Brand, #5 in New Car Reliability, #6 in Used Car Reliability, but #25 in Maintenance & Repair Cost.

They are reasonably reliable, but quite expensive to maintain and repair when out of warranty. Most owners accept that in return for a superior driving experience. People who view cars as appliances would be better served by another reliable, but less expensive to maintain, brand.

I know a ton of people with BMWs, and none of them have made it past 100k without significant and expensive repairs. None of them. Perhaps they work well for a few years, but dump them before they hit 75k.

Looked at the X5. Found ourselves in an X7 instead. Love it!
