Alcohol also raises breast cancer risk, as does being overweight, as does a lot of things.
You have to be educated and decide for yourself if the risk outweighs the benefits. Talk to your doctor. |
| Everyone knows it, what doctors are saying it’s safe? Quite the opposite most doctors are super scared to prescribe which is why they have had a proliferation of these new menopause private equity firms that will sell online to people. Otherwise everyone would get the prescription from their doctors. |
I get mine from one the area’s top women’s health doctors. |
| PP - can you please share the name? |
| I'm very torn honestly. My gyn suggested I try HRT even though I am high risk for BC (mother had it in her 50's). She said, try it for 2 months and see how you feel, a few weeks on anything won't give you breast cancer. I've been on it for 3 weeks and I feel FANTASTIC (except for the sore boobs, but it's tolerable). Now I have to decide whether to live with the risk, or the discomfort of meno. Am 54 btw, 2 years post-meno. |
My prescribing doctor is a long-term partner and part of one of the highest rated women’s health in NYC. Her appointments are minimally 45 min, she takes labs, she checks in, she takes feedback. Not the fly by night online hucksterism you keep screaming about. Sorry! |
Your gyn sounds pretty irresponsible. Whatever symptoms you have, breast cancer treatment symptoms would be MUCH worse. You should visit a GP and psychiatrist to explore other treatments. There are other options out there for mental health and insomnia and hot flashes. |
I don't think she's irresponsible. A few weeks of HRT isn't going to give anyone breast cancer. If it didn't help symptoms, it would be a moot point. Since it does, then it comes down to a risk-reward equation. |
And yet many here on dcum are A-okay with giving these hormones to children, who are the opposite sex that the hormones were naturally meant for. If they are this bad for adult women, imagine what kind of long term damage they are doing to teens and children. |
Did she go over non-hormonal options? |
Unfortunately she’s not taking new patients. Look here and pick one you like: https://portal.menopause.org/NAMS/NAMS/Directory/Menopause-Practitioner.aspx |
We've talked about lifestyle stuff in the past, none of which has helped. I am already on an SSRI which does help with sleep (not as much as the HRT though). Otherwise, my major issues are joint pain/stiffness, skin problems, dry eyes, and terrible fatigue. I was falling asleep on the couch at 5pm regularly. Now my energy levels are completely restored. |
And she informed you of the breast cancer risk, right? |
There are other ways to handle the symptoms. |
Great, why don't you tell us, since you seem to be an expert? |
