Rob Roy is the Great Falls of the Austin area. Westlake is on the same side of the river. On the UT/downtown side - Hyde Park is nice, as is Clarksville - both walkable with good shops and restaurants. Tarrytown is kinda like McLean.

Texas as a state sucks for a lot of reasons. Gov Abbott is terrible. But Austin is probably the best part of the state. Your money will definitely go farther there. The running trail along the river is awesome - the area is way greener and prettier than I'd anticipated. The music scene is good and the BBQ is good. Their downtown area in general is decent.

I have family in Austin and the second point is really important. Do not underestimate Austin traffic. Really consider what your spouse's commute would look like.
