| Very common...we planned our vacations to where the teams were going. ( child stayed in team hotel and we stayed elsewhere). |
This is the actual high school team or a club team comprised of high school aged athletes? Was the sport in season (eg hockey over winter break or baseball during spring break) and was this something you were aware of when your kid went out for the team? Obviously this is an additional expense—how does that work? The schools we are looking at for HS are those where DS anticipates being able to continue playing his primary sport and will also need to play at least one other to meet school requirements. Depending on where he lands he may or may not continue with his club team. Not sure private school tuition + the expense of trips to FL (or wherever) + club fees is an equation that makes sense for our family. |
If the financial aspect of playing a school team are make or break for whether you can afford the school, please talk to the school about what costs are involved in team participation, not just anonymous people on DCUM. |
Sign him up for convention next year! I chaperoned my kid and it was amazeballs for both students and adults. Tons of fun. |
Sheesh. Of course we will discuss this with the school if/when DS is admitted and decides to go. Feels a bit premature to ask the school at this point. I just didn’t even realize high school teams would be traveling out of state over holidays so trying to understand what’s what. |
It cuts into family time and is really terrible. I think it contributes to so many issue kids have these days. Many missed many hours with their families and only have time with kids on their teams. It can be fun if they are close with their teammates but not all kids are close on teams. Even if they are, it still really affects family time. |
