Arrest at HS

Why can’t the kid be arrested off school grounds??

So a juvenile student was arrested at Woodson? What for? Surely one of you has figured it out?

Westfield sent out a generic email that night about a student who had passed away--it sounded like they died of illness--. The next morning, at drop off, there were police everywhere all over the school building and they were pulling kids out of class and interviewing them. Not a peep to the parents that a *murderer with a gun was at large*.

That’s like what happened at Herndon High last month. Not great.

Is it really that difficult to include the name of the HS in your post? I hate posts that require research to figure out WTF people are talking about.

but then why do we get email blasts when a kid makes a stupid joke that is deemed politically incorrect?

Omg. The school should have sent some info about the arrest. But please cut it with minimizing what was probably very racist comments, not just “politically correct”. Do better.

No. FCPS consistently sends schoolwide emails for any incident involving racist or hate speech — and to be clear, no one here is saying that racism is acceptable. Parents should be informed when those incidents occur.

The issue is that FCPS uses “privacy” as the justification for not communicating about many other serious problems in schools: bullying, violence, drug use, vaping, repeated disruptions, and safety concerns. Those incidents directly impact student well-being and school climate, yet parents hear nothing.

You can’t claim “privacy” when it’s convenient, and then abandon that same standard when an incident involves hate speech. Either privacy matters, or transparency matters — but right now FCPS is picking and choosing, and parents are left in the dark about issues that absolutely warrant communication and accountability.

The point is not to minimize racist incidents. The point is that FCPS should address all serious issues with the same level of urgency and transparency, instead of hiding behind “privacy” only when it suits them.

Latest rumor is that two admins got in a physical fight. Without knowing any details- I know who one of the offenders has to be.

This is a minor. They aren’t going to release information about the minor’s arrest.

No one is asking for information about a minor. People want to know when and why police are on campus with their children. The APS statement works fine. Why are so many people here against knowing when the police are at their kids' school??

I would like to know if two adults employed by the school got into a shoving match in front of my kids. Also would like to know why there was a large police presence at the school and in the neighborhood. But so far- nothing.

Did you reach out to the school to ask for more information? I'm guessing no.

Typically, a kid can not be arrested on school grounds or while going to or from school. If that in deed happened, it was extenuating circumstances.

But they do when a minor says racist stuff or posts something on instagram that might be interpreted as antisemitic
