Bootcut Jeans

And no I'm not the Uggs poster!

Don't forget to add the poster is shallow because she thinks about fashion.

Bootcuts have been around for so many years, I would count them as "classic". Nearly all jeans manufacturers - high-end and low-end - make them, and they will outlast the skinny trend.

Just find ones that fit you well - very few people will care if you look "fashionable". I would rather see people wearing bootcuts than hopping on the dreary skinny jeans/flats train, which is "fashionable" but flatters almost no one.

Why does looking like a mom have a bad connotation? What does that mean? If you are a mother, in your 30's or 40's, who should you be trying to look like? A teenager?

I think bootcut jeans can be pretty flattering, depending on the jean; I don't feel like skinny jeans are workable for a lot of people. I know that as a non-stick person wtih hips and a butt and thighs, boot-cut jeans look great on me. (I like Lucky brand.) I'm not a super fashion plate, but I'm not frumpy either and can dress myself so that people don't necessarily think "mom" at first glance. I do agree with the other posters that the waistline can't come up too high and your top can't be too frumpy.

Something can be the trendiest thing ever, but if it makes you look like you'd be better off in a burlap sack then what's the point? If you like boot cut and they fit you well, then go get some.

And tell your husband to stop reading your Cosmos already.

OP here- what I am really wondering about it what is in style right now... I definitely wear whatever I want!

It seems like what is in style are those skinny jeans, which you really need a specific body to wear, but everybody with legs seems to wear them.

Man, those skinny jeans looked terrible on me in the 80s, too. Totally sticking with boot cut.

Skinny jeans are nothing compared to jeggings. Now those are trendy.

So here's the thing. I don't have the "specific body" type everyone says you need to wear skinny jeans, but I am short and I like to wear flats, and I believe that skinny jeans make my body look much more proportionate than bootcut do. I looked for years for a pair of bootcut jeans that looked great--from Gap to Joe's, I just couldn't find any that didn't make my legs look stumpy, particularly when wearing non-heels. Skinny jeans look neat and trim, and they don't drag on the wet pavement when it rains. They are also comfortable.

The bottom line (for me) is that I don't look great in any jeans. I spent a while scoffing at skinny jeans when they first came back in style--then I tried some on. I like how I look in them, and I feel comfortable in them. They will go out of style soon enough, and I'll need to find another option. But for now, they are my go-to.

It's way easier to look ridiculous in skinny pants than boot cut pants. I have yet to see an adult woman look good in skinny pants. High school girls still have boyish figures so they can get away with it. The designer that brought back skinny jeans actually hates women and wants them to hate themselves.

As a fellow shortie (5' 1") you need to find a good seamstress. That will solve your problem of the dragging cuff.

lol, i've seen plenty of women that look great in them...even larger women who happen to have small calves. I am not one of them. my legs are too thick. i would LOVE to wear them, but unles i lose 30lbs, its just not happening. i'm trying to avoid boot cut though. i think the trouser cut/wide leg is more in style. as well as a straight cut.

I don't go by fashion, I tend to go by what looks good on me. For example, even if low waisted stuff goes "out" I'm never going to wear high wasted stuff. I have a flat stomach and a flat butt and I look better in low waisted. Boot cut makes my legs look longer - I'm only 5 feet 3 inches so I will always wear pants that are a little long and the style is flattering.

Who cares what is "in"? Wear what looks good, within reason.

I don't get the drama about skinny jeans. They are not that hard to wear, and don't have to be super tight (look better if they are not, actually).

They need a longer shirt and more volume on top to balance them out and look better with flats or boots or chucks than heels or sneakers, IMO.

If you can do that are are moderately height/weight proportionate, you will look great.
