Can I wear these? My hipster husband tells me bootcuts are frumpy and out, but I think he may just be anti-bootcut permanently....
Want to know if they are back in style. I obviously know I can wear whatever I want, but am more curious about the style aspect. Thanks for any thoughts... |

Do they look good on you?
Something can be the trendiest thing ever, but if it makes you look like you'd be better off in a burlap sack then what's the point? If you like boot cut and they fit you well, then go get some. And tell your husband to stop reading your Cosmos already. |
I think bootcut are fine (I wear them) if they are flattering. Just don't go for the flared

OP here- what I am really wondering about it what is in style right now... I definitely wear whatever I want! |

Geez, are you the Ugg poster too? http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/130027.page
If you want people to blindly agree with you then don't ask for opinions. Or post a response to your own question saying how "hip" and "cool" and "in style" the item is. |
Got news for you sweetie, if you're this concerned with what is in style right now...you definitely do NOT wear whatever you want.

Love how this is the fashion forum and all you get are responses that you have no style if you ask a style question...
And no I'm not the Uggs poster! |

I think bootcuts are here to stay - neither in nor out.
Is your husband objecting to ones that you already own, or against your buying a new pair? If he thinks yours are frumpy - I always find my husband's opinion is dead-on.
|
Agree they are here to stay, not trendy. I continue to wear them because they are far more flattering to my figure than any other cut. |
This. I should be arrested if I tried to wear those skinny peg-leg jeans. |
Bootcuts have been around forever because they are universally flattering on everyone. That's usually why something stays in style and becomes a classic. The skinny jeans craze will die out again just like it did in the 80s because they are only flattering on a small segment of the population. I'm not saying they look horrible on most people, but they only look really good on a few. Boot cuts are here to stay. Just make sure you get them in a dark wash and that they don't come up past your belly button -- then you're entering into "mom jeans" territory. What you wear with them can make a big difference in terms of why your husband thinks they look frumpy. Put on a nice pair of high heals and a sexy top and see what he says then

| I hate to break it to your hipster husband, but skinny jeans have been around for at least 3 seasons. When you get to the point that they've filtered down to soccer moms (and I use that term with pride), they're well past hip and are simply mainstream -- like boot cuts. At this point, I think you see a mix of boot cut and straight jeans on attractive DCUMs -- and that's your baseline; not what 20 year-olds are wearing in SoHo. If you look better in boot cuts, wear them, but as a PP said, just make sure you're wearing them with up-to-date, flattering, non frumpy boots and tops. Also, make sure they're hemmed to the right length. If you can pull off skinny jeans or straight legs that aren't so skinny, by all means, get yourself a pair and mix it up a little. Fashion should be fun, and it's not when you're worries about impressing hipsters. |
| If yoi can't wear skinny, buy straight legs, wide legs, or a trouser cut. Boot cut not so much right now. |
| Really? Trouser???? Is that more fashionable than boot cut? Trouser screams mom to me. |
| Boot cut is not fashionable. Makes every outfit look 10 yrs old. Sorry. |
