Why can’t we still salvage the shut-down?

But, when there is a “bad result” on a vote, the simple solution we have is to simply keep voting until the parties vote correctly.

I do not see the reason for America not doing this as we do.
you mean like Brexit?

Brexit should never have been allowed to happen.

Or Greece's financial breakdown. Did they ever form a government or did they all just conveniently fail to form a coalition, "No good options. Oops, not my fault, I don't have to deal with it." Then it went back to the electorate who didn't like any of the options again, over and over.

These sorts of machinations happen in America, but they seldom get brought out into public. Party leadership tend to only bring legislation that is ready and they know they have the votes for.

There is a position called the "Whip" either majority or minority, their responsibility is to figure out before the vote who has the support.

What's interesting is how legislators "caucus".

Why can’t we just call another vote in the senate and re-vote? The shutdown isn’t even over yet.

No, they are not having buyer's remorse. They knew the reaction. It's why they had other Senators vote yes instead of them.

It's pretty obvious the Democrat leadership decided they needed to end the shutdown while looking like they opposed the deal. So they had the least vulnerable senators vote for the deal and are now pretending to be mad at them. It's all a big show.

But the Democratic leadership kept pushing the narrative: “we cannot end the shutdown because republicans control both houses and the White House; we are powerless and the republicans are 100% to blame!”

- was that a false narrative all along ?

Can you share a specific quote from Democrats saying this?

It was clear to me they knew if they caved on ACA subsidies they could end the shutdown

Democrats focused on trying to shift public blame to the Republicans, who held unified control of the government. Senator Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi often highlighted that the GOP had the power to pass funding bills but chose not to negotiate the democrats demands in a bipartisan manner.

Nope. The Democratic leadership did not push that narrative. The only “false narrative “ here PP is your claim.
I’m fine with being corrected though, if you can support your initial comment.

The Democrats have claimed — correctly— that it’s all on the Republicans, who, of course, could have chosen to end the shutdown at any point. While the Democrats could have caved at any point, they “kept pushing the narrative “ that the Republican plan to make health insurance unaffordable for millions of Americans is unacceptable. I’d argue that the truly unacceptable stance is one that pits the need for food against the need for healthcare.

While I think it’s horrible health care costs will go up for many people, that and Trump’s fighting SNAP benefits has shown that the GOP doesn’t care about struggling people and has no healthcare plan. Maybe it will open some eyes to see who protects struggling Americans and who has galas for billionaires.

Agreed. But it should have ended two or three weeks earlier. This was always the endgame, even predicted on this forum.

Several of the senators are up for re-election in 2026.

What's unacceptable is democrats were getting the Obamacare subsidies already in place prior to covid and they wanted the covid emergency subsidies also to continue to be stacked on top of those.

Enough is enough. Covid is in the rearview mirror.

This is why the blame for the shut down will be split evenly. Democrats are way too vocal and obvious about being "pro shut down."
