UMD EA requires SAT scores sent directly from college board?

OP here. Perhaps it is better to switch to test optional rather than incomplete EA being rolled to RD. Kid has 1530, GPA 3.86/4.76. Physics. From NOVA private.

Just my opinion, no way would I go test optional with a 1530. Order the score report today.

The worst that can happen is the app would get moved to RD for a late score report, but I don't think that would actually happen. Very few universities are that super strict about the deadline for an official score report; Michigan is the only one I can think of.

Request on expedited basis. Not sure if they will bet there in time, but there's a huge advantage to applying early to UMD so it's worth the extra cost...

We just had College Board send the scores to all of the schools DD is applying to.

SAT rush scores take 2-4 business days. 50/50 chance they'll get there in time... I'd try!

UMD's website says:
Standardized test scores can take several weeks to process and be received by our office. Please confirm that the testing agency submitted your scores to the University of Maryland, College Park, using the SAT code 5814 or ACT code 1746. Applicants often send their scores to other institutions in the University System of Maryland by mistake.

If your scores were sent to the University of Maryland, College Park, confirm that the first, middle and last names indicated on your test are the same as those used on your application. Different spellings can result in scores not matching with application files.

If you have confirmed both of these details and still have questions, please email us at ApplyMaryland@umd.edu for assistance.

If I submit new test scores and/or application materials after the deadline, will they be reviewed with the rest of my application?
Only materials received or postmarked by the deadline will be reviewed for admission. We cannot guarantee that new scores or materials received or postmarked after the deadline will be reviewed as part of your application

There is some ambiguity. "Postmarked" for scores might mean the date of ordering the score report. Submit the scores now and cross your fingers. If it takes "weeks" to process score reports, everyone is in the same boat here.

Michigan allows applicants to self report scores. Maryland is known to push kids to RD if everything not complete on 11/1. OP, for that major and with those scores, I agree with those who say send on the most expedited basis available. Do it now.

Most schools advised kids to order scores for Maryland weeks ago. At least, if in state.

And a friend of kid's said the Oct SAT results won't make it in time so don't bother taking SAT in Oct if student is trying to superstore or use the results for UMD. Not sure why it couldn't have gotten there by Nov 1 if you expedite via college board (cb).

Kid decided that he will go TO, eventhough we have already order the test scores from college board to be sent. Kid does not want to risk not considered for EA. He is also applying for UMD music department, which strong encourages EA. Fingers crossed!!

Once you submit the app, this cannot be changed. I think this is a mistake.

I thought only when you are attending the school that you need to request the official scores to be sent. For applications, only self-reported scores?!! For example, UVA, and Penn State accept self-reported scores. No?

I was pretty sure Penn State also required an official CB report.

When you're accepted and want to go, yes. Otherwise, I think they take the self-report via STARS.
