What happened at Churchill today?

Ugh, that sounds terrible. We're not at Churchill but definitely have issues at our HS with kids using drugs.

Honestly, trying to cover it up or be dishonest about it isn't helping anyone. The school doesn't need to name the student, but it's reasonable for families to want to know if it was a drug-related emergency.

If PP's child is districted to this school, it is her/ his business.

Incorrect, another persons medical condition is private. If the child has a seizure or diabetic episode, it is none of your business.

Why? It has nothing to do with your child.

If you feel as if it is your business to know another child’s medical emergency, feel free to publicly post your own child’s medical records here for everyone else to see.

Names do not need to be named, the drug issue needs to be spelled out and parents made aware so it is stopped before another emergency or worse happens.

Monitor your own kid.

+100. This is nothing besides ya’ll be nosey and wanting something to gossip about. Move on. It doesn’t involve your kid so not your business.

The schools don't allow this. If they are going to ban parents from keeping the school safe, they have a responsibility to keep the school safe.

That would be true if it is a medical condition such as this. But if a kid was shooting up in the bathroom, that's an entirely different matter. It's a separate issue from a 'medical emergency' though in this case the two coincided.

Anyone who doesn’t already know that there is a drug problem has their head buried in the sand and an announcement isn’t going to help them. And if they knew how to stop drug problems, they would have by now.

Is the student being charged with a crime such as possession? Are they being deemed a treat to public safety because of the drug use? Is there evidence of a massive drug ring taking place inside of the school? If not, then I feel like it still 100% falls under a medical condition that is afforded a certain level of protection and privacy due to HIPAA. I do understand that there are some weird gray areas when it comes to schools and whether HIPAA and/or FERPA apply to these kinds of situations.

The letter sent home pretty clearly shared what the school thought families should know. Why do you feel entitled to know more? If you or your child was in danger directly as a result of this incident the communication would be different, but individuals - minors especially - are entitled to privacy regardless of how curious you are or not.

And all parents should take it upon themselves to be concerned about and talk to their kids about drugs and drunk driving and sex and scams and all kinds of things regardless of where they go to school and what's happening there. So maybe just do that.

EMS public records have it listed as a Cardiac Arrest. You don't need to know more than that.

Not for medical emergencies.

A child might have a condition they don’t want spread all over the internet.

Yes, public records say cardiac arrest due to drug overdose. Really sad. Stop being nosy and say a prayer.

What is wrong with you?

All HS's in this country have drug problems.

This is not anyone's business but that child's family. They are a minor.

Blame Trump and Republicans if you want to start screaming about drugs in schools. Drugs coming over the border are coming in 10x faster now that Trump has pulled all enforcement for immigration. Cartels are loving the Trump Drug loving administration.
