What are you thinking in this political climate?

UF alumni who was funding millions in scholarships at UF. Never again not one dam dime.

Can anyone actually comment on the merits of the school? It seems the only comment are based on politics.

geez louise give a rest - btw your post here and the one on Vandy, sounds like you lost a family of relatives in the civil war and still holding a grudge against the south

I, too, was concerned by the lack of campus housing. They didn’t even have enough for all freshman when my ‘23 kid was looking at schools.

It’s a huge school and the above I find very problematic. They will accept kids and tell them they have to take their whole first year online. That’s asinine.

Florida offers the Bright Futures scholarship to in-state students with a certain GPA and test score so the state keeps a lot of their top talent. All their state schools have grown tremendously since I lived in FL and was a college student there in the 90s.

Kids were taking video lectures on UFTV or whatever they called it in the 90s. Its always been overcrowded and under resourced.

It punches above its weight because of Bright Futures, where if you have a 3.5 GPA you have a completely free ride funded by a tax on the uneducated, I mean lottery.

I wonder if that will change as more of those lottery suckers migrate to crypto…

Florida doesn’t have an income tax, and sales tax is very regressive and somewhat tied to economic cycles.

I grew up in Florida, and I am SHOCKED at the numbers to apply now, and the ranking of UF. I know some of it is brinkmanship with US News rating process, but I assume it must have really upped its game at least somewhat from the party school that it was (and I had lots of classmates go there, academics were not its highlights)

My class of 2021 applied with a 1470 and was offered first year online. I can’t remember what the program is called but you do the first year online and then can be on campus the remaining years. Even then, a lot of classes are online.

Online classes are a deal-breaker for my kid.

Florida is a deal-breaker for me.

UF is respected for its engineering, honors and law school. Lots of top students there but the online classes would be a dealbreaker for me as well. UGA isn’t as highly ranked but may offer the SEC vibe/good weather with a better college town and better classroom experience.

My kid got in this past year with a 1510 and a 4.0 from NOVA. It is extremely affordable. If you apply asap and have a grandparent in FL to get the waiver (must apply like now and can only do so after submitting the application) it is dirt cheap because you get in-state tuition.

You're so tired. I am sick and tired of opening a college thread when someone is looking for feedback on a specific school and reading your comment about politics. Go away.

Naviance at DC’s private parochial school indicates 1400+ easy admit and a smattering of admits with scores in the 1300s and below.

Visited Florida last Spring. Beautiful campus and they are building several new buildings. Very diverse student body as well. Go Gators!
