I would never let myself be trodden down like that, OP. I don't want to harass you more than you've been harassed already by your MIL, but you should have refused to interact with her a long time ago. This is very much your husband's problem as well. I have no respect for a man who lets his wife be treated like this.
And I'm from a conservative culture where MILs are notorious for being nasty. |
What? It’s so hard to believe? well it happened. And you’re right, she probably does have some serious mental health issues - she was an alcoholic for 25 years from the age of 20-45 all through raising her children (and the bad kind that w dad up hospitalized for several months which led to her recovery) and now hardly leaves her home and no longer drives out of anxiety so I do believe she has something undiagnosed. |
He said he was fine cutting her off. I didn’t because we have children and they have a somewhat normal relationship with her, completely facilitated by me though. |
Here come the crazy mother in laws! |
It’s a slang expression, you’re not so bright are you? |
It is not a "slag" expression, it is just a reflection of total ignorance and a failed education. Its the language of total morons. Congratulations you get the Moron Crown of the week. |
| OP, I understand. My husband never took up for me. I divorced him when we became empty nesters. Good riddance to both. |
Then why are you complaining if you chose this life? |
|
OP.
You don't get brownie points for being a willing martyr. You're not more virtuous than anyone else. Your kids don't benefit from access to a horrible person, just because she's a blood relation. All this you've done for the sake of (I don't know what, really!) is worth nothing. Your husband told you it was OK to not see her. This is so stupid I really hope you're a troll. Because the alternative is that you've made yourself suffer for NOTHING. |
I didn’t say slag, I said slang. Look it up in the dictionary. Work on your own education. Its should be “it’s” … and Moron Crown would not be capitalized. |
| yes they didn't like where I came from yet they were from a tiny town that's not even on the map. |
In my culture, it is very rare to cut off blood family members even for pretty outrageous things. She’s fine with my children. |
| She sounds like ungrateful trash. Yes, I would stop doing all of that stuff for her. |
| I would never marry into a family that treated me like that or marry a man who let anyone treat me like that. |
NP. Oh dear, did you mean "slang" but you wrote "slag"? Oh, the delicious irony. |
